Watching "the last stand" with Arnie. Not too bad either. He has to actually act, speaking more than mono sylables and it works. Will watch the rest tomorrow. Oh and Warehouse - $29.99 normal DVD or ...$29.99 for the Bluray version with bonus digital copy!!

Pacific Rim.  A rollicking boys own Godzilla meets Transformers showpiece that panders to the techno-beast in all of us.

Even the shonky bits (i.e. when the Jaegers aren't doing WCW moves on the Kaijus) are just the right level of shonky.

A movie-buff friend described Pacific Rim as one of the most poorly scripted films he'd ever seen, yet one of the most fun. Highly recommended apparently.

Watched "King of New York" last night - Christpoher Walken at his serious best.

Watching Jurassic Park 2 on TV4 now.  It has Pete Postlethwaite and all i think of is Sgt Obidiah Hakeswill from Sharpe.

Watched "The Killing Fields" the other night. If you really enjoy a very serious drama that approaches a very serious issue, then this is the film. Deserved all the plaudits it received when in the theatres many years ago. True story.

watched Pain and Gain last night.  Pretty funny, but ended up a little darker than I thought it would.  I give it 4 boxes of Tangy Fruits (out of 6)

The Way Way Back was very enjoyable

For part of a thing we are doing at Vic I watched Memories of Murder.

The detectives in this are clueless. Based on a true story.

Went to see The Conjuring. Good old-fashioned horror film unlike the usual slasher pics out these days, which was weird as it was by the guy who directed Saw.

If you liked the original Amityville Horror film you will like this

Fantastic film that. Other good recent Korean ones are Old Boy, Mother, and The Yellow Sea, which is the most violent film I've seen in a very long time.

Saw Kick Ass 2 last night which was about as decent as the first Kick Ass film.

Might try Old Boy...  ta for the tip.

Don't know if anyone has gotten round to watching GBA yet, but I continue to recommend it with great enthusiasm.

Last night I watch World's Greatest Dad, which is Bobcat Goldthwait's first film.  Not as good as GBA, but still very good, and contains an excellent performance from Robin Williams.I give it 6 movie reels out of 8.

Recent films:

Elysium: was ok, visually nice, fight scenes a bit over show, some terrible acting 5/10

Jobs: 3/10

Paranoia: 3/10

Pac Rim: 5/10 So many flaws, somehow really enjoyable.

I'd rate pacific rim up to about a 7. It was better than Elysium, which was pretty meh. Plot done to death, looked nice enough but that's about all it had going for it. 

haha, I actually haven't seen anything in a while that I have really liked. Despicable Me 2, meh, as ok. 'The Bling Ring' or 'This is the End' was probably the last thing I saw that exceeded expectation. Although for some reason haven't seen 'The World's End'

Just watched Spring Breakers - possibly the biggest pile of self indulgent count I have ever had the misfortune to sit through

Spreeeng Break, Spreeeng Break, I don't know how Harmony Korine got a budget to do it. I enjoyed parts of it. I thought the ending should've been the girls being quickly killed off and it would've been a much better piece. I really like Korine's interviews on Letterman while younger though, also the 4th dimension is some crazy Vice magazine art film.

I don't know if this counts as a "Movie" but I just watched Joe Bonamasso "Live" in New York. I believe they used 14 HD cameras and a 5.1 Soundtrack. Excellent concert.

I'd also like to recommend that you check out any Bluray reviews via "Bluray.com". Just type in the name and get for what in the most part are fair reviews. Films are judged on Video transfer quality, audio quality, special features quality and overall quality.

Spring Breakers got 6.5/10 on that site, so I am going to say it is populated by people with who often but bluerays into the toaster in fits of confusion, and total thundercunts (not suggesting you are either LG).

That film sounds like it has potential to become a mega hit amongst the "cult" fans. Bit like watching "The Brother from another planet". Although it was well done to be honest. It came out around the same time as "Repo Man" with Emilio Esteves which also became a cult favourite. 

Anyone else remember "The Toxic Avenger" and "The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" ? So bad that they were good? Showing my age I guess.

Any one planning on watching Sharknado on Prime TV (8:30pm) tonight?

Saw the advert for that. PMLS. Could be a quality "C" grade movie that is so bad it's good.

Sharknado - So bad that you had to watch it to the end just to see how bad it really was. It's a cult classic in the making. Example: two actors in a scene, one has brilliant blue sky with no clouds, the other has a cloudy sky as if it's been raining - yet they are side by side. If I wa sa shark swallowed up by a tornado being flung around the sky, the think eating lumps out of humans would be the last thing on my mind. As I said, so bad that you had to watch it to believe it!

Watching "Saving Private Ryan" on the net.  The beach landing scene is brutal.

 

Yeah watched it again the other day. I actually liked it more this last time than when I saw it at the movies.

Hanks at the top of his game as the "great" everyman, etc...

The Hangover III is quite good.

Rush was great.  I only went to it as turned up at movies at 1pm on a Saturday on a whim and it was the only one I thought looked ok. 

Great story(and apparently close-ish to actual events) and casting, nice racing action.  And a bit of raunchiness which I think most of the oldies in the theatre weren't expecting.
