Finding short term rental in Napier/Hawke's Bay

My husband and I were hoping to arrive in Napier in late Feb or early March. This is a rough estimate as to how long it will take us to sell our apartment here in Toronto and get ourselves launched.

I contacted several motels in Napier/Hastings to see about renting out a room while we look for a home. However, apparently, we'd be arriving right in the middle of the Cricket World Cup, and it'll be hard to get a room.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to get there any earlier than this though.

Our next option is to try and find a furnished apartment to rent short term.  Does anyone know a reputable realtor, or someone who knows about renting out places to people arriving from overseas?  I suppose, if it's not possible to find something in Hawke's Bay we could go somehwere else, but we do need to find somewhere to live when we first arrive.  We're definitely not going to purchase a home online without having gone to check it out first.

Moving to a new continent certainly does present all kinds of challgenges!!

Maybe look a little further out whilst the CWC is on... Hastings and Havelock may be tight, perhaps Waipuk, the Clive Hotel... (ok, maybe not a pub but you get my drift) until you can hit town once the fly by nighters move on.

I've marked down the suggestions from here, and we'll contact them once our apartment here has been sold. It'll be easier to figure it all out once we know our exact arrival date.  Our stuff is being shipped over to NZ in early January, and the apartment will then go on the market. We'll be staying with family here til it sells. It's a pretty hot market in Toronto right now, so it shouldn't take more than 2-3 weeks to sell.

I'm just checking out the Westshore Beach Inn. May send them an email just to ask about rates.

as Junior said we moved from Wellington about a year ago -many things to recommend in moving here and just as many things I miss about Wellington; but for us as a youngish family the chance to have a cheaper life in a bigger house and smaller mortgage was a big incentive

Gisborne - Hawkes Bay is my preferred part of New Zild too.

Just don't like the idea of wearing prosthetic extra digits and webbing between the toes so that I can fit in with the locals :)

LOL this thread. :)

In terms of jobs, we're pretty mobile: I do photography (sell my work on stock sites etc), and Mike is a computer fixer.  Fingers crossed we'll be ok. Won't know til we try it! It'll be an adventure, no matter what the outcome.

I was in touch with Jeremy there about a month ago and told him that I'd write back once our dates are a bit more firm.  Just emailed him now and the email got bounced. Tried to look up the Westshore Beach Inn web page to email him via that, and it's down. Do you know if something's changed there?

Thanks, will check it out! I've found the other place on twitter and tweeted to them. Weird about the bounced emails.
