What's your favourite Fish 'n Chip shop in Wellington?

Mine would be Cuba St (Wellington fisheries) for fish

Aro St for chips

Great chips, they cut their own, none of this frozen sh*t.  They use Wharehou, a fish with flavour & texture, none of this Hoki crap.  I travel through 2 suburbs to get my f & c there.

Trentham isn't Wellington.

Trentham is barely civilization.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

When I lived in Phoenix City, I used to go the one opposite St. Pats in Silverstream.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

When i was in Welly on holiday back in 04 there was a superb Chip shop on what i recall was the main street in Karori. Can't remember the name but had dinner there the first couple nights i was there and it was awesome.

Three for me, and two for them.

you guys need to try any F & C shop in Invercargill- blue cod for under $3, and when i lived there, they were all F&C shops (other than 1 or 2), not chinese takeaways with a deep fryer installed.

I've never been back since the time I went in and they said they'd run out of fish.

And chips.

I remember when I was at Mt Cook School in the early 70's Fri's was always f & c day.  It was supplied by the shop in Hopper St, couple of doors from the Webb St corner, don't think it's there anymore.  It cost 20c, yes 20c for 2 fish or hot dog or sausage & a scoop of chips!!!

I was told. ages back, that there's a fish & chip shop in Wellington that has a vat for fish only. That is, chips and the rest , get cooked separately.

Anyone know any more?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

The chippie in Maungaraki does do an excellent Deep Fried Mars Bar.

I'm slightly disappointed!

Corfu? That place does excellent chips, the fish etc can be a bit hit-and-miss depending on who is working (i.e. never get stuff from there on a saturday afternoon).

Then why is it that the best fish and chips I've had in the UK and Australia barely compare to what I consider so-so here?

I've had f & c in the UK, supposedly the home of f & c, & it was crap!!  They fry it up then they put it under warming lamps which makes them go soggy.  Had them in LA, but that was a novelty to the Yanks.  Can't remember the quality.

Are you saing that  "pre-cooking and keeping it under a lamp for a while" is a bad thing? It's not as if the fish had recently been taken from the North Sea anyway, so what difference would an extra half an hour under a few 100W lightbulbs make? You'll be complaining about the quality of the picked eggs and soggy chips next?

F&C is is now stupdily expensive in the UK, anyway.

I prefer the F&C in NZ but as I'm from the UK,  I'm never going to admit that in a public formum like this.

Apologies for not backing you up Fortean. I'll bring some hot Bovril and a Wagon Wheel along to the first game of the season to make up for it.

I'm slightly disappointed!
