I am currently living in the asshole of Wellington, Arlington St, Mt Cook. My flat is one of the most piece of sh*t places you can live in. My room is detached from the house, also being the best room, our oven doesn't work, toilet floor is leaky and one of the rooms is uninhabitable because of mold and weeping ceilings/walls.

Who else has had q similar/worse experience whilst being a student?

I haven't personally lived in a sh*t hole but I've visited some mates places in Dunedin and saw some horrific flats. Some things I saw: holes in the exterior walls with rubbish bags taped over to keep the draft out, leaky roofs, mouldy carpet/walls throughout the flat, floors on massive angles - was like walking up a wheel chair ramp, missing floor boards, rats due to piles of rubbish, a mate had a pig living in his back yard, another had a goat living inside their house, one guy cut a hole in his bedroom wall with a chain saw so he could see the living room tv from his bed, carpets constantly wet because they're always covered in spilled alcohol and vomit. But it's nothing out of the ordinary down there.

Saw one flat similar to your description in Hollaway road in Aro Valley.

Fuck this stupid game

Thats pretty insane, I have been to worse than my place, but nothing that bad. Landlords obviously just don't give a sh*t? Our one doesn't, never ever been around here unless our rent was late, which happened once, told him all the problems, never heard back from him.

Yeah they don't give a sh*t. It would cost them to much to fix it and you're likely not paying enough rent to cover all the costs because it's such a sh*t hole. Most flats in Dunedin are left to the students for the whole year and when they move out it's fixed cleaned to the minimal living standard for the next guys. Bond isn't expected to change hands after the land lord gets it at the start. Such an awesome place though, North Dunedin, I'm going to be gutted when I run out of friends down there to visit.

Never met the guy, but from what I've heard, he seems like a top bloke.
