Fort's Febfast and Bikewise

Anyone doing the alcohol fasting during feb?

I'm almost a week in and still feel a bit sh*tty about everything as I normally do when I give up drinking. After a fortnight I usually feel pretty good. I find the first few days carb-craving is the worst.

Also a bit like giving up smoking you realize that everyone you work with are a bit sh*t which annoys you. The world also appears a little greyer and more boring without the background a minor hangover that acts like a bullsh*t-filter.

Need to eat plenty of tryptophan-inducing foods to give a bit of a serotonin boost and some serious B vits for lift and brain-repair. So thats nuts, beans, fish, tomatoes, etc...

Good article and very true account about giving up drinking from a fellow *ahem moderate drinker

Also with Bikewise month I'm trying for a 1000km, I've only ever managed 710km before.
Day 4 up 244km.

Day 5 today, can I be arsed? Done a run, but can I get back on the bike?

I feel I cannot ignore this thread and your posts, Mr Times. I wish you the best of luck and you have my full support.

My contribution to your bikewise effort was further stages of teaching my daughter to ride her bike and yesterday "we" graduated from the school playground to the Avalon Park kids bike track where she encountered all manner of bizarre road behavior. Also learnt was the art of breaking (instead of "foot putting down') and ended up with skidding to a halt. Not in the same league, but a valuable life skill.

Whilst not giving up anything myself, I am assisting a couple of my guys at work who are going through various challenges (one alcohol, one smoking) and appreciate what is faced.

I hope you achive your goal and will puchase you a celebratory pie in March!

(yes.. this is the same Capes)

I'm slightly disappointed!

Although that last phrase almost sounds like it belongs in TopLeft's thread.

Haha! thanks for the support guys. Capes Sod the pie mines a pint!

Junior , erm similar experience mate, similar...

Good that you are getting your littlelun into cycling Capes, CAN often do cycle skills training which I also do with adults as part of my job, so maybe have a word with your daughter's school next time you are there?
Teaches you a  lot about riding and road safety and makes people a lot more confident on a bike.

Anyhow 69km today

Total = 515km Day 8.

you have cycled 515kms in 8 days?  On a real bike?

That is very impressive.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Thank you. Yes, and it's not a carbon framed racing bike with skinny tires either but two steel framed bikes. One a cyclocross bike and one a touring bike. Heavy but solid for Kiwi roads.

To be fair I'm completely buggered though.

Keep the focus Up

Get the Long ones out in Weekend   4 @ 120 km     = 480 Km
During the week 4 @ 35km x 4 weeks                       = 560 Km
a couple of days recovery each week
                                                   Goal achieved        = 1040 Km

From past experience ya gotta grind out those long ones and then recover
Avoid trying to average them out on a daily basis

Best of luck will be watching your progress

That's sort of what I'm doing, I have one advantage that I basically have to do 32km x5 a week through commuting.

feeling pretty bugggered this week though. Am aiming for 100km today, but not leaving until after lunch.

Cheers for the advice, you are not wrong about grinding though.

What was the final score, Fort?

I'm slightly disappointed!

Due to a pretty nasty throat infection which took me off the bike for 2 weeks 1067km. It worked out at about 70km a day for the fortnight.
