I watched a brilliant piece online the other day where Bill O'Reilly was asked for proof of God, and he said, if you don't believe in God, how can 'liberals' and 'science' explain how the oceans tides go in and out, without ever missing a beat.

Now I have no problem with people's religious beliefs, but that gem from Bill was quite outstanding.

O'Reily has become their reasonable centrist guy.
which shows just how far gone they are

also O'Reily may have been stating that all ideologies require faith to function. Science, just like any other form of understanding is built from this.

Science isn't built on faith, it uses aspects of faith but isn't built on it. That's like the old chestnut that Atheists have 'belief' just like religious people.

If religions are sports, rugby is Christianity, football is Buddhism etc, than what sport does the person who doesn't play sport play? None in this analogy.

PS. I know that's not necessarily your viewpoint, but O'Reily's. The argument just annoys me.

Also, sorry for possible thread derailment. Fox News sucks monkey balls. There we go.

Mind you

There is a god who created anything

Is just as absurd as

There was a big bang and everything was created.

People should just believe whatever the hell they want,as long as it doesn't infringe upon others negatively.

Nobody should try to say the other is wrong as there is nothing to disprove anything. If I however said I could fly, then you would be right in telling me I don't have wings and therefore can't etc.

But what if you have complete faith that you can fly

You would say 'I can fly' and I would say 'no you can't' and then 'prove it' and you would say 'I don't have to prove it' and I would say 'the burden of proof is on you' and then we'd repeat the argument until you actually flew.

Not certain of my facts, but I'm pretty sure the theory isn't "There was a big bang and everything was created".

if we need proof, reason or logic
a lot of people don't.

in a free society people will come up with their own ideologies.
regardless of how ridiculous others may feel they are

look at Tom Cruise.

But my point was that you actually could prove that i couldn't fly. Not practically (unless you threw me off a cliff),but through explaining the science to me.

God...Not so much. You can't really prove god doesn't exist,as much as you can't prove that he does either. So for people on either side of the belief/non-belief to call the other wrong is well...idiotic.

Therefore people should just believe whatever they want as long as it doesn't infringe on others negatively.

Thing with Science, it says the Big Bang is right because its the best story to fit the current facts.

Thing is - when a new fact comes along, they update and rethink everything. Religion does not.

I make the assumption things are fairly free for Mr Cruise.
do you think he has less options than say you or I?

the point I was making Junior was people may make seemingly bizarre choices. I think my example is valid.

still no news on foxes. False advertising? Boom Boom?

in principle or theory yes. But in real life manifestation, clearly not.

I struggle to contemplate that there are people who actually think Science is immune to the exact same bias, prejudice, corruption and hierarchy readily apparent in seemingly all of Humanity's ideological/belief structures.

Of course it's not, and that's not what he said. Even without corruption and bias etc religion is a different kettle of fish to religion, otherwise, it ain't religion or it ain't science. *argument dissolving into semantics alert*
