Here's the Eyes Wide Shut piece that Jon Stephenson (freelancer NSA helped New Zealand gov't track) wrote: http://www.scribd.com/doc/137677725/Eyes-Wide-Shut-The-Government-s-Guilty-Secrets-in-Afghanistan…

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Its a very interesting piece and the type of journalism we very rarely see in NZ its made even better by the fact that Stephenson actually went to Afghanistan to write it. Though, I think we need to be careful saying the Govt tracked Stephenson.
He was in a warzone where all communications are regularly tracked to help develop information to target "the bad guys" it is likely Stephenson's name came up and as he is a NZer this would have been passed onto the NZ contingent. The question is what was done with this info?
It is a very big no-no if he was actively tracked and someone should be made accountable if this was the case, but on the other hand we need to be careful we don't look at it in isolation. If Hager wants to really but the nail in the coffin he needs to show that Stephenson was actively and intentionally tracked by the NZDF either with their own assets or via someone else.

First one, I think it is great that people are passionate about animal welfare. Hopefully it will permeate people's conciousness and make them consider other actions to reduce animal cruelty. BUT comparing an emotive issue of animal welfare against would can be considered a complicated issue is silly and more an indication on the level of apathy amongst a large portion of NZs population.

And on the second link, I think whaleoil must have some serious Chinese Walls in his brain when he leaks information to his own personal benefit. And isn't all forms of journalism providing information to the public but as a product the same thing? I think it is important that the Govt and elected have their motives scrutinised.

It seems that because I went on the GCSB protest I am 'politically aligned' , 'misinformed', a 'traveller' , 'don't want the state to have any power' and in some way 'desperately wating to be spied on by the GCSB'.

Fascinating.

Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight
