Harvey Norman Fail + Bond and Bond win.

I went into Harvey Norman Porirua this afternoon ready to splash $1500-$2000 on finance to get me some toys, i.e. a DSLR camera and a Video cam. After 15 minutes lurking around their Camera and Video Camera session I was bitterly disappointed to be given 2 minutes of service RE the video camera, and then told that he couldn't sell me the DSLR because it's different departments, and he then walked away without getting me someone. I waited another 10 minutes around the DSLR's and go no hint of service.

Pissed off I walked straight out the door and got served immediately at Bond and Bond. They had the exact same models, and in total were $300 cheaper. Although Bond and Bond offered me 30mths interest free as opposed to 48mths interest free with Harvey's, they actually bothered to serve me, and were happy to stay open a bit later to make sure it was all sorted.

Hat's of to Bond and Bond, harvey norman, piss of back to Aussie you retail retarded t**sers.

Thing is, Harvey Norman work out the interest and add it on top of their products, then they advertise it as being interest free, which it is, but you do the math!! Bond and Bond probably offered you the real price with a more genuine interest free.

I find all the electronics/appliance retailers offer sh*t service, they leave you standing there for ages.  There is an exception however, L V Martin seem to be a little better.

Yes, Extended Warranty is a rip-off.  You're covered under the Consumer Guarantee Act.

Yeah that's a negative to the extended warranty. Sony for the Video Cam but Cannon for the DSLR. It was same price to a comparable Sony, but it had a few small wins over it in my book. I just shut up and listened to my old man who's been in the photographic industry for 20+ years, and he suprised me because he normally wet's himself over the Olympus range but had to conceede to Canoon's specs!!!

I would generally go for Canon over other brands.

I brought a cyber-shot the other day, pretty decent at $150. I find JB's give the best service and generally have good prices, but the don't offter much in finance compared to others.

BOSE in wellington is the worst for Prowling salesmen.

I went in to look at an iPod sound system, it was $500. So of course I said - Ill think about it and come back (Obviously with no intention to return)
And he asked why, why should I look around. These are the best, they have 75% of the market, are the most popular and the best sound.

I told him he was doing the tough salesman thing and he got offended.

What a c**t.

Yeah its very annoying. Actually a lot of stores do it now, like clothes stores even. And you're an idiot if you walk out of those places having bought something at the price on the card, they always leave room for negotiation. Many times ive said "mmmm slightly out of my price range" and got a few hundred casually knocked off.

Allegedly

so slightly off = a few hundred ($)

Maybe next time try "a bit off" or "a bit more than slightly off" and see if you can get it cheaper!

I'm assuming that the prowling sales reps are on commission so are keen to pounce and collar the punter.

We've had good service from Noel Leemings staff (Tory St and Queensgate), so don't begrudge them their commission.

I've had the worst service (or lack of it) from Harvey Norman.  Best (relatively speaking) service from L V Martin.
