Hello all, me and a few mates have just started fishing....we are
not sure what we are doing wrong but we havent caught anything in a
few outtings so we need some help! We are just fishing around the
wellington area and just using average rods with either a spinner
or a sinker and hook. We are using soft bait because we heard it is
good but yea...... Can anyone help on a good location or a better
way to fish! Thanks Multilyith

Get yourself a fly rod, and an expert teacher.
Learn where to go, what to go and have fun. Best fishing there
is for trout!
ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Try the wharf just before the Miramar Cutting - where the ship used
in filming King Kong is tied up. There's always a lot of
people fishing there. Do what they do.

Or just steal the fish out of peoples buckets, if thats what your
doing it for.

I'm keen to get into fishing here as well
Any suggestions as to
1) Best places to fish
2) Best gear to use
3) Best bait to use
4) Fish your most likely to catch

Or there are other forums for fisher folk- or go on a charter with
local legend Pete Lamb:
http://www.petelambfishing.co.nz/ (forums on that site too)
or better yet, get rid of the fishing rod and buy a wet suit and a spare gun
My bro in law who posts on those forums caught nothing but small blue cod until he got a wet suit and now regularily brings home butterfish, paua, cod, moki and huge crays-
spots are secret of course
but
suffice to say it is not the miramar wharf!

I went on a Pete Lamb charter off the Kapiti coast - very
good. Loads of Groper caught - I caught a rather large eel. Moved
further in a caught some snapper and loads of undersized orange
bastards (roughys)

Some people have a gift...my mate would wander down to the harbour,
find some old fishing line and a couple of thrown away hooks, tie a
few rocks on as sinkers and pry off some of those pipi thingys off
of a rock to use as bait and he'd always catch something.
Used to drive the guys with all the rods and gear wild!
