I'm taking the mrs and 3 year old daughter on holiday up to Wellington in April, but we've only been there once, and that was for AW game and we only stayed one night and left again at 6am so didn't get to see much more than the main strip. Just wondering what else is out there, especially for the wee one so we can keep her entertained. (Plus I'm trying to talk mrs into moving up there so the better stuff we can find the better my chances are
)

hey- we have a two year old son and we are always looking for new stuff to do- let me tell you- there is not really alot for that age range in Wgtn- OK there are good walks and beaches for the whanau but in terms of stuff for the kids it is a constant rotation of te Papa/Kilbirnie Pool/the Zoo.
We have a kids zoo pass which is great value-$70 unlimited entry for the year.
However, one new thing that we did this Summer which was awesome was go on a day trip up the Akatarawa.
First we stopped at Harcourt Park which has a neat-o playground and a FREE outdoor cold pool, then we went to the Blueberry Farm-http://www.blueberryfarm.co.nz/
Pick Blueberrys and have Blueberry pancakes and Milkshakes. and just up the road from there is Staglands, which is a good nature park. (we didn't go there cos we waz knackered after scoffing blueberrys)
Anyway- we are always looking for kids stuff too-so ill keep an eye on this thread

Cable Car FTW
Waikanae (up the road, oop north a bit) has a very kid centric/friendly bird sanctuary (Nga Manu)
Raumati (bit closer to Wgtn) has a small mini-rail (cheap as chups)
Capital E sometimes has good activities for pre-schoolers (but mostly geared towards primary school)
Te Papa really is the bomb for kids of all ages - the discovery centres should keep the wee ones occupied for hours.

Waikanae Pool is pretty cool. Outdoors and with a waterslide.
Same with Wainui Pool. Has an awesome open top slide that goes through the bush

They move games down to CHCH, I'm sure they'll extend the season for you
. Hopefully you get some nice weather when you are up here.

The first one is more probable than the second.

Had a quick browse at that, but honestly would rather ask people's opinions than looking at someone just promoting a business.

Actually that has some other good places:
Museum of Wgtn (old Maritime Museum) - free and some interactive displays. Also some quizzes/activity sheets for kids (ask at the counter)
Island bay Marine Education Centre - get to touch an octopus! Gold coin donation - open on Sundays.
Karori Swimming Pool??? WTF?!
If you are here over labour w/e you can go and see Dad's Army at the Wrights Hill Fortress.

Agree- Museum of Wgtn is great, and the playground at Frank Kitts Park just nearby is the best in town
