I was at the game tonight. 8-10k there and absolutely NO atmosphere at all. The only exception was booing the sent off player and booing the referee at full time for being the cnut he was! Crap game let down by crap aussie ref and lindon "I hate Wellington" Brey.

Anyway at half time I went and met a couple of the Citizen canes. They seem like really good guys and there was about 12 there tonight. Their tee Shirts are $30 from the Thistle Inn. They are making an effort to make a difference. They are not trying to be us, just themselves. I reckon we should get behind them and help out. Next canes game, I'm going to go down there and help them start up with a few amended Nix songs. Mind you, tonight I did give the sent off player a good round of  "Who are ya" as he walked right past me! LOL

The Phoenix have a very good relationship with the YF, The Rugby Union (Wellington) are too stuck up their own arses to help the Citizen Canes.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Wicked post apart from the last bit.

Wellington Rugby is trying to support them for all I know... But what I know isnt much. My Dad really likes the idea of it, cause he knows rugby needs a better atmosphere.

No more home games for a month. I wonder what the citizen Canes will do to kill the time?? think I'll buy one of their tee Shirts to help their cause - promoting an atmosphere and a good time at the rugby.

We should invite them to a Nix game for a few pointers or we could attend a canes game enmass and help them out!

That would be a good idea, then we could get some new fans along to Nix games.

I've stayed out of this thread until now

LG and  Harry P - as News has said  YF don't do rugby as a group

(please note my restraint in the language I have used in this post)

Did I say we show up in our Nix gear? No I did not. Not another Rugby V Football divider??

We show up and help them out with their singing. I'd be wearing my Hurricanes scarf and Hat.

It's Wellington after all. Retraint of language? Perhaps time to try looking outside the square? Why have a crack at some of us whom support Wellington sport in general and wish to encourage mre fans to show up?

Just because in the past I have criticised the rugby, racing, beer mentallity of a lot of Rugby fans doesn't mean that I dont support Wellington in sport.

People are allowed to not like rugby, but to go on saying "football is better rugby sucks" and just generally bagging rugby and acting elitist is very stupid,as it is just stooping to their "anyone who plays socer is gay" mentality, and we dont want that.

Actually this is a good idea. Just helping them out without trying to promote ourselves would be silly. The two codes are in a competition after all, there's only so much money that can be spent on attending the stadium after all. However if we go along, create some right proper atmosphere and teach 'em songs like Wellington is Wonderful and give opposition players a 'who are ya' while they make conversions and the like could be a great bit of advertising for our game.

Perhaps we could start at our Phoenix games by chanting 'Nix, Nix, Nix, Nix" - I chant I picked up from the Hurricanes v Sharks match but have modified! Rugby, Football, Netball etc, If it's "Live" and Wellington, we should support it - even Lacrosse!

Yellow Fever = football...no need to extend to other codes. Each of us can individually support other sports however we wish (chanting at rugby games with citizen canes for example)...but YF as a group being a supporters group of all wellington sports is definetly a no-go for me
