The only reason its expensive is because its an Apple product. Too busy trying to be "cool", missed some basic phone features that have been around for years like MMS and video capture. A 2mp camera is pretty average given its claim to being a premium product.

But oooh, it has a touch screen! Pass.

Apple have bitten off more than they can chew IMO trying to take on the likes of Nokia and SE in such an established field, but they've made a decent effort of it I guess, and the brand power is undeniable.

You could buy it prepaid....

Id considered getting one, saw the price on contract, might give it a miss. Will be interesting to see what Telecom do when they move to there new network later in the year

Price too expensive whether it's prepaid or on a 24 month contract. Apple might be laughing all the way to the bank as every wannabe will probably buy one then realise just how expensive it will work out.
