Refuse to click on anything written by that troll, so haven't read it, and won't. But is this guy the biggest troll ever marginally pretending to be a journalist or what?

I'm getting quite sick of the McCullum haters. Yep, he's not perfect... but he is doing his best with a very dodgy back, and I actually think that his field settings etc have been miles ahead of Taylor. Just don't get all the hate for him.

Really odd final sentence to that article

"Troll troll troll. Troll troll troll. Troll troll troll."

FIFY.
Crap. McCullum out this morning. Now Anderson too. Big hopes for Watling though, that lad is quality.

Let me guess, he hit a boundary, then got out a ball or two later trying to hit another one?

Match fixing?!?! How are our cricketers capable of fixing a match? Surely this isn't the reason we lose so many games because I'm positive we are actually just a bit shark.

Must be spot-fixing rather than full on match fixing. Match fixing only really works if you create an upset, which would mean we'd have to win, which would mean it'd be the other team getting paid by the bookies.

Any bowlers have regular no ball/wide issues?

Apparently (hint) it isn't in New Zealand games, more the overseas T20 sort... And it's nobody who is still an active player it seems. A very narrow list...

Brought this up on Twitter - this is the only game I've ever been to when I've wondered if something was up:

I recall as the time massiveanus was called out about that innings (50 over too)

I was just so preposterous, he was in for 18 overs in the heart of the innings, not chasing a big total, and in that time they added like 40 runs, I remember at the time wondering what the hell was going on and it's still superb today.

The most common fix is influencing total runs in a block of overs by either batting slowly or bowling badly so you beat the spread. Its more about manipulating odds rather than spot fixing particular ball or fixing a result

Any candidates or rumours though? This stuff has been linked with cairns before but I'm struggling to think of others really. Someone must have heard some rumours?

Darryl Tuffey? Just a guess. Has bowled some horrific spells in his time

Whites presser

- three players under investigation
- the matches were not played in NZ
- the players are not currently in the Black Caps
- White confirmed he is aware who those three players are
- the matches under investigation took place in the last 3 or 4 years
- White says its now up to the ICC to release more details and they have

The popular ones popping up are the ones that were in the ICL - Tuffey, Harris, Cairns, McMillan, Astle, Bond, Vincent, Marshall

Cairns, Vincent and Tuffey. Not surprising tbh

Permalink Permalink
over 12 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

It surprises me regardless of who it is but those three are regarded as pretty genuine guys if you put aside Cairns' first run in which he had cleared - I know it's a case of smoke/fire etc now but it seemed to be clean slate for him when he came through it.

If it took place in the ICL then what's the ICC's interest in it when they never sanctioned that competition?

Is it a coincidence that all 3 of those guys were known for their inconsistency?

I guess that applies to most NZ cricket players though...

Tuffey, Vincent and Cairns.... wonder how that judge feels about Christopher now?

Permalink Permalink

The judge ruled in favour of Cairns due to lack of evidence behind Lalit Modhi's comments. Have you seen any evidence to back up the latest accusations because I'm pretty the judge won't have.

You can say that again. I remember watching it live.

I think what is the most interesting thing about it is that he looks so calm and composed despite how ever many no balls and wides he bowled. He bowled 6 balls without any of them counting. Australia were 10 runs ahead without technically a single ball bowled in the game. It doesn't really seem to bother him though. I know if it was me I would be furious with myself and would show it through my body language.. how did he remain so calm? I was a terrible terrible bowler but I never bowled so many extras in an over. Seems so fishy.

So you're saying because he tried to stay calm and compose himself he was clearly match fixing?

Alright mate.

I'm just saying that it is one of the most bizarre overs of any form of cricket I have seen in my life. The chances of any bowler in the world legitimately producing so many false deliveries in one over is truly remarkable. I have played cricket for years and in my time through the junior ranks I have never seen so many false deliveries and trust me there were some terrible bowlers around. The fact that an opening international bowler produced so many false deliveries beyond anything ever seen in international cricket is suspicious. Not necessarily evidence or proof, but it is suspicious.

What I'll tell you about these organisations that are responsible for tackling match fixing in sport mate is that they RARELY come out with allegations unless they are very confident that they have sufficient evidence in their hands. It's the same with the tax and fraud organisations, that rarely ever get it wrong if the news hits the media.

I am not saying that this particular over can be linked to match fixing. However, it is possible and seeing that Tuffey is linked with these allegations that are often correct, I could be right. I may be wrong but we will truly see whose the one talking 'bullshark' in the future.

Haven't seen Andrew Penn bowl in an international then?

F-d off with the NZHerald.
McCullum makes a great century. Taylor makes a great double. Good support from Rutherford, Fulton, Watling, Sodhi, Wagner and what the fudge? The Herald chooses to run a massive front page about NZ Cricketers in Match Fixing scandal. Three former NZ cricketers are being questioned in a much wider investigation.
If it was an AB who'd put in a performance the equivalent of...to put it in perspective this is only the 4th time we have scored higher than 600 in a test match...and instead of getting the front page, it gets this other sharke smearing them...

All stems from ICL in 2008. All 3 playedfor Chadrigah Lions. Match fixing was apparently rife, players went unpaid and some never got paid

Yes, you could be on the right track. It's difficult to form unbiased opinions as we can only use the information that is presented to us in the media. Who knows what the full story is or the truth yet but it's a shame we're caught up in this. Anyone know what that possible punishments could be? I have no idea. Jail time possibly?

I was watching the test today and heard Cairns commentating.

He got the yips mate simple as that. I've played and watched a fair bit of cricket and have seen it from time to time. His was a bad case of it. At the time he had a lot to play for, he had a good NZC contract and had a lot of close mates in that team. The ICL was a different story - they weren't getting paid and they were surrounded by corrupt people.

A lot of people are getting carried away here. It's easy to sit there and go "oh yeah I remember that time that player had a shocker - absolutely had to be match fixing if he's being accused now". Fact is you don't know and you're speculating with no evidence. I'll be waiting until there is evidence.

But the ICL was not sanctioned by the ICC so an ICC investigation can't be looking at that.

Also, re: that Tuffey over - anyone remember when Robert Kennedy bowled 5 wides (or something like that) in one over? No one suggested he was match-fixing

Jeez TL .... settle down, can you not see the irony in the fact he was cleared due to a lack of evidence and has now been implicated through an actual investigation? Of course the Judge in the Modi case will now be going hmmmmmmm.

A new stance relating to this issue or all issues of a speculative nature? Like you will wait for details before speculating more than thinking Cairns in particular was interesting in view of recent case.

Totally agree. It's a real shame that this is completely overshadowing what is shaping up to be one of the best black cap results for ages. Chanderpaul just gone btw, and they are 4 wickets down chasing a further 199 to make us bat again...
But who cares about that... back to the scandal...
