We have a lot of batting to do yet.

We need to be there at stumps really.

If we manage that we can go in to day 2 with some optimism.

Three for me, and two for them.

First session even.

If Rachin, can make it through the next session at the run rate he scores, we will be doing well.

That 300 looking distant without one more v good partnership.

Don’t think we have enough there. Need a very strong bowling performance to keep us in the game.

I’ve also seen the women are in India for an ODI series. They won the World Cup on Monday. Not a lot of time to rest up and celebrate!

Pretty even day 1 for mine, we looked solid at lunch, and made a good start after that. Before tea I thought we could go on to make 300+ But when Washington took those two quick wickets in the space of 10 minutes I got a little worried. Our tail has no ability against any delivery that moves, pace or spin. Good to see Southee take Sharma though. If O'Rourke can knock a couple of quick wickets early day two we could roll them pretty cheaply.

Blimey. Better than I expected. Not likely to be a 5 day test if this keeps up.

This Jadeja Ashwin partnership could be very dangerous. Need to get rid of them quick.

Well I don’t think we will get a better chance of winning a series in an India then now.

Heres hoping we can get the last three for less then 50 and then knock up 300

Tricky however against their spin attack

Wait. I was reliably informed by everyone that Mitch Santner wasn't good enough to play tests and his selection was a blunder?

If we can have them 7/107, they have enough quality to roll us in our 2nd innings for less than 100. I doubt we will get near 300, but we shouldn't need that many runs now. The best time to bat was yesterday.

Kohli and Pant will be big big wickets in their 2nd dig. They can change a game completely in an hour, and this test could be over tomorrow.

But for sure we are in the box seat, and would be an unbelieveable achievement to win there. England in 2012 the last time the Indians lost a series at home. That's a long time ago. Swann, Panesar & Cook.

What do we think we need in our second innings?

I reckon if we match our first we will be a strong chance to win.

Wait. I was reliably informed by everyone that Mitch Santner wasn't good enough to play tests and his selection was a blunder?

He's a fantastic white ball bowler. He's not a big turner of the ball, bowls wicket to wicket, and relies on very clever subtle changes of pace and flight.

That can be enough in India, with a skiddy pitch. Well done Mitch. Warne for all his sheer class, and ability to get big revolutions on the ball - didn't go that well there.

If we can knock up 100 in the last session off 30 plus overs for a minimum of three wickets, we will win this.

That’s two days of cricket.
How were we so poor in Bangladesh but have already produced one of our best ever international performances here?

Great week for cricket.

Also did anyone notice yesterday how close we were to England’s score? For long periods about 5-10 runs and similar amounts of wickets.

I should be happy with runs in the bank. Why am I so nervous about our position?

Poor in Sri Lanka, in the 2nd test especially.

But man they are playing well in this series. It's all very well beating India on a green top after rolling them but 46, but this in their favourite conditions would be quite some win.

They will have to bat really special now to prevent us winning. But Sharma, Gill, Kohli, Pant are all capable of a big  score, and quickly. Though without Pujara and Rahane they no longer seems to have those stable rocks to bat around

To be fair, before this test his best bowling resulted in only 3 wickets. This is either a complete  fluke or he has grown as a spinner and could well be a major player for years to come.

Granted, great bowling in that innings but

1: His previous record over the last decade speaks for itself. Averaging 40 odd per wicket which is diabolical for a bowler

2: He has had countless opportunities but his batting also has not developed

Considering he was only selected as Bracewell had gone home and the next cab of the rank was Sodhi, give him his due for stepping up.

Let’s however reserve judgment until the next three Indian innings are played.

Perhap it is that the pitch is absolutely perfect for his style of Bowling, that he is getting result. If so, we now know what he could possibly achieve.

If we weren't on the cusp of history I was planning on getting up early for a replay the glory game tomorrow morning. But we are here now so might as well stay up for a late night sporting marathon but for the love of God boys you've got 45 minutes to wrap it up please. Don't let this tail wag for too long!

I'm watching this and flicking over to the Melbourne derby in between overs. Going to watch the Perth game too.

Phillips might only have 1/59 but I reckon he's held up the other "end" brilliantly.
