20k crowd, you'd think they'd put up a fight...
Fixed.......and I'm only talking about Friday nights performance which I had the misfortune to attend. Actually, it was a fun night. Pity about the result.

So McCullum finally back at 5 where he belongs in ODI cricket - hopefully coming in around 25-30 overs into an innings and setting the pace to hopefully chase the set total. It is that sort of role where he has (imo) had the most success. Still think he has to open to have a role in the test side though (either that or start scoring a boat load of runs)
McCullum & Taylor starting to warm up now... must be time to leave work soon!
And the wheels fall off after Macca goes.
Well, at least i'll be going along to a match that has something riding on it on Sat #positives.
It's very easy to h8 the NZ cricket team/losers...
So we go into the test with an opener proven to be not capable at international level (averaging under 21), another opener on debut who the opposing team have worked out can't yet play the shortball in the ODI series (although I really do hope he goes well), 3 seamers, with none of the batsman selected able to act even as an Astle/Styris type fourth seamer and a 'spinner' with a first class bowling average over 35 and batting average under 20.
I am not impressed.
It's absolutely appalling isn't it?
Even the most optimistic parts of my brain are struggling to be convinced that there is any chance of this ending well.

Incredible game at Basin yesterday. Atleast for the batsmen anyway

Wow, Papps is in pretty good nick.

Pretty good timing for Rutherford to get 90 in the other match. Looks like openers will be Fulton *sigh* & Rutherford.
Pretty bad timing by Papps though. A bit late to make a run now really. If he'd done this earlier in the season things might have been different.
He's had a pretty good season to be fair. When you watch him you can tell he has his game sorted, doesn't play outside his limits. The sort of thing that only comes with maturity. Hence the Fulton selection I think. IMO Rutherford is going to get rolled in this series and it could effect his confidence I think. Dare I say it I think Papps or Redmond might have been better options.

Big call! But probably fair. We tend to write off cricketers if they don't star before they're 25. Andrew Jones debuted at 27, and I'm sure there are others as well.

Interesting in the Uk media they weren't that concerned about Rutherford. Said he played well but they thought he was pretty dodgy against the short ball in an innings when the poms bowled pretty full and didn't really test him a lot.
Not only that I thought Latham was ahead of Rutherford in the pecking order then all of a sudden Rutherford makes the T20 side then get's carried into the ODI side, and now to the test side? Really? I hope he does well, I really do but I am worried we're exposing him a bit.
BJ putting an end to the Ronchi debate?

I would have thought pushing the Waitlng to open and Ronchi to keep case.
BJ putting an end to the Ronchi debate?
Not really. Watling has absolutely proved his worth with the bat and belongs in the side as a batsman on his own merit, I still think you need to pick the best keeper in tests, as games can turn on half chances that an experienced keeper might make. If McCullum opened that leaves room for both Watling and Ronchi, with Ronchi keeping.
And Watling is the best keeper, it's not like he's new to keeping or anything. As I said, never seen him make a mistake, took some superb catches in the NZ XI match too.
I'm not in New Zealand but I am so ridiculously excited about the start of a home test match. England is always such a great series. Hope we see something from the boys!
If it ever starts!

For Central:
Overall:
Something will have to go drastically wrong for them to not make 400. That record seriously under pressure at the moment.
New Partnership Record For Any Wicket IN List A Matches in NZ previous Record 273 MHW Papps/SJ Murdoch 2012/13 - Just notched 300
Papps and Murdoch will be gutted, only held it for nine days.
How 200 off 126. First NZ list A double ton
Apparently the fourth highest score worldwide so far.
How 217* You'd be pretty stoked if you happened to turn up to the ground for this one.
How gone for 222.
