Can't seem to find a general thread about the Olympics.

Sports Illustrated has tipped New Zealand's Olympic team to bring home 16 medals from London, but the country's head of high performance sport is playing down such predictions.

Included in the haul predicted by the prestigious American sports magazine are five gold medals.

If SI's highly anticipated pre-Olympic list, which tips wins for Val Adams and a host of Kiwi rowing crews, is right it would represent New Zealand's largest medal haul, topping the 13 won at Seoul in 1988.

The Associated Press has already tipped 14 medals for New Zealand, with four gold.

Both predictions are well ahead of High Performance Sport New Zealand chief executive Alex Baumann's pre-Games estimate of 10 medals, including three gold.

I honestly think we will be lucky to hit 10 medals total.

Pfft, when the Olywhites and the Football Ferns win gold, there's 22+ medals right there.

Have to agree with Ryan's Rovers. We will definitely win 4, Adams and the rowers, and there is potential for another few rowing crews to snare a couple, Andrea Hewitt, maybe Carrington in the kayaking, and perhaps one in the cycling or BMX. Other potential medal winners could come in sailing, equestrian and maybe we could sneak a hockey medal. So, a positive preview - if every prospect comes through we could win 13 medals.

The people predicting 16 must be including teams like the Olywhites, and I think most would agree that’s very unlikely.

I don't think Gold for Adams is as certain as it was a while ago. I'm backing her to get it, but she's got some pretty strong competition, Nadzeya Ostapchuk has certainly had the wood over her this year. I'm not a big Rowing fan, but I think they will be where we collect our biggest tally of medals. Can't wait for it though! Starting with the Football Ferns tonight.

The games haven't even started yet and we have the first controversy.

London Olympic organisers mistakenly displayed the South Korean flag on a jumbo screen instead of North Korea's before a women's football match, prompting the North Koreans to refuse to take the field for nearly an hour.

The flag flap began this morning during player introductions when a North Korean player was introduced along with a shot of the South Korean flag.

The match against Colombia was delayed for more than an hour, and organisers apologised for the error.

Just imagine how annoyed they would have been if it was a medal presentation.

Nick Willis to be NZ's flag bearer, he is a pretty good choice.

perhaps one in the cycling or BMX

Would really expect nothing short of 2 medals in BMX, golds even. Its such a small sport, one i have been involved in and follow closely, but because of the severe lack of media coverage in NZ people dont realise how good Marc Willers really is. Sarah Walker is still expected to finish right up there, both are in great form.

Watching the NZ Womens Hockey last night,

NZ scores in the first minute from a Penalty Corner, commentator yelled it was a goal before it happend. Commentry was in advance of the picture by small but noticeable margin.

Question for sky is can they leave me enough time to place a bet with the TAB

At least that is better than the commentary lagging behind the video by about a second, which was what was happening for the first two games of football.

Tsk tsk, 4 Badminton pairs dq-ed for not trying to win.

But Borris Johnson stole the show overnight.

Used stuff.co.nz to check all the rowing times tonight, only to find out they were all wrong so I missed two of the races. FB messaged them and they have changed it to the correct times. From now on using http://www.olympic.org.nz/london-2012 for finding event times. Stuff.co.nz can GGF.

For the record rowing is only a sport once every four years.

Fuck this stupid game

Should I watch the rowing now, play Dynasty Warriors or watch the beguiling Sacha McNeill on Nightline?

Sacha wins for now...
