What parallel lessons arise for NZ football clubs and the Nix. Discuss.
From the article above:
"The current drama surrounding the Wellington Phoenix, who were denied a 10-year licence by Football Federation Australia to play in the A-League, meant Wallace would be seeking a long-term licence.
"Our next port of call will be to talk to the ANBL about the basis of the licence, I guess that part of it is top of mind at the moment given the Phoenix's situation.
"I would prefer to have a long-term [licence] with performance measures attached to it so that if you're not performing in terms of the criteria in the licence document, you've got a period of time to rectify it.
"What I don't like is a situation where you get a short-term [licence] and then you can be subject to the vagaries of who happens to be running the business at that particular time, I don't think that's a fair and equitable way to run a business."
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Yep, even they can see the shafting the Nix are getting with a short term offer.
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

talks a bit about it in there, especially this part:
"Our league is privately owned but all the clubs are shareholders, and each club owns about four percent of the league," Clarke told Fairfax Media. "Our licence is granted in perpetuity, not on a set basis, so as long as we are financially solvent, are putting a competitive team on the floor and aren't bringing the league into disrepute, our licence goes on.
That is the bit that rankles me most regarding FFA: they gave out long term licenses to other 9 clubs with no regard to what shark they might find themselves in in 2, 3 or 5 years, let alone 10. So the whole "4 year max" license to Phoenix is nonsense, as the biggest problem to league stability is clubs falling over financially and having to be rescued by FFA, and not clubs bringing low broadcast money to FFA (especially a club that did not negotiate said broadcasting deal).

maybe the Phoenix should go play in the NBL instead.
Allegedly
How do I tell th difference between the two?

Would not be unusual, some of the European clubs have basketball teams attached, like FC Barcelona.
If Welnix branched out into other sports, imagine the tv pulling power they would have. I imagine it would be slightly better.
Would of course prefer them to continue playing in the A-League as well as all other sports

Didn't Welnix floated once a possibility they would buy the Hurricanes?
Would sure give them an incentive to build a rectangular stadium.

I thought that also re Hurricanes, and thought it may have happened.

Do you know any more about it? I reckon it is a good way of spreading the "risk" and leveraging between two sports' seasons.

They would have the same issue as the Nix with TV rights I would think, with NZRFU/SANZAR negotiating the rights? You would think it'd give more leverage in stadium rental though.
