Simon Barnett - seriously?? He and McCormick are just clowns.
I offer James K Baxter, Howard Morrison as far better treasures.

Hate to update you on what happened to James K Baxter’s public image then…!

Hone Tuwhare had less of an ego.

I dunno. Send in the Clowns! I think we’d have been well and truly out of love with John Lennon by 1990 if he’d survived, let alone what would have happened to him come the me too movement. There’s lots of people such as Roald Dahl, Kenneth Graham and Kurt Vonnegut who treated people in some really crappy ways. It’s something we haven’t resolved in our culture with guys like Louis CK.

McCormick, Hunt, Shadbolt, Bob Harvey are all of a similar kind of clay imo. And we have to mention Barry Crump, if we’re doing tarnished heroes. Taika a bit young yet.

Dame Kiri still beloved? I feel like she might be up there.

Interesting one here. James Belich? Again left the public eye, and moved on from exclusively New Zealand history.

Sir Howard, geez. But yeh, the UK one had the proviso they had to be living. Amazing life.

Hone Tuwhare must be close to top draw. Less of an ego?
