When I lived in Gisborne we had a poker syndicate that played every second Friday and I went regularly. Had some good times with some good mates, but that's what made it - a mix of the right people/right environment. Wouldn't go looking for a game.

Only once... put $20 bucks on the table at Jupiters last year... 18 minutes later I had $950 and walked out. Had a pretty good night!

I played my first online tourney last night. $100 NZ freerolls on Full Tilt. Came 359th out of about 600. Must improve.

How long did it take? Occasionally think of entering those things, but don't want to be committed for to many hours.

I got knocked out after about 20 mins so not too long
It started at 7.40 and i went to bed at about 11.40 and they were down to the final 4. So i would imagine between 4 and 5 hours. They do have plenty of breaks though so you aren't constantly sat at your computer screen. Very good setup imo.

Only have to finish in top 27 to win money. I have won probably about $10�$15 or so on it, but don't really play much and my biggest weakness is getting bored and pushing all in. So I suggest playing a bit then sitting out and coming back.

I play texas holdem with mates every Thurs. $10 each, winner takes all, and it usually lasts a couple of hours. Lotsa fun and laughs.
I play pokerstars.com with play money and that is ok. You can find your friends on there too and play against them.

I played a tournament in Vegas a few months ago - brilliant fun. It was USD$50 in and then everyone started with $2500 with the binds going up every 15 minutes. I wasn't the first eliminated (which was my goal) but I was never in any danger of winning the whole thing. I think it was during the first hand of the game when I asked the dealer how much I had to put in to see the call that the rest of the table spotted be some easy prey.
I had played a bit of online stuff before hand but it is so different with all these people around a table staring at you while you try to decide if you are going to bluff or not.
All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
