This guy was my favourite guitarist at one point. Then he got the blues.

I'm pretty blown away that he seems to be largely forgotten if you look at lists as top metal guitarists.
Yeah I know that he went over to the blues but still. Mind you you look at these lists and you have Blackmoore and the hugely underrated Alex Lifeson, (my fav ever), sitting way down. When I was growing up in the 70's and 80's these were considered gods in the metal universe and rightly so.
Bloody Metallica

I'm very sad to hear of this. Saw it on the news. The guy was a genius and only he and Rory gallagher as well as Clapton could really play the blues like it should have been. Although I also enjoyed his Celtic exploration with the "Wild Frontier" CD. "We want Moore" is a classic rock album. "Victims of the future" was also good.
"Empty Rooms" was one of my favourite songs. Now with Gary gone along with Rory, the Room really is empty.
Watch and learn how to play a mean guitar!!
