The man behind the Sex Pistols, a visionary, antagonist, artsit and legend.

Rest in peace knowing that you strived to deny it to everyone else...

I still fly the flag (check out my sad little entries on the Musical tag thread :-). However...

I feel that some people (including Maclaren) think that Punk would not have existed if the Sex Pistols hadn't. I don't think the cause and effect chain is quite so simple.

Oh, and in the 70s I was more into the wombles than punk (the hairline masks my real age!)HarryHotspur2010-04-14 20:39:41

When I was 9 years old, "Duck Rock" was my absolute favourite album. It was brilliant.

lol I'm probably more in your camp Harry, I've not heard much in the way of good things about the bloke. I've kept quite as he's dead and all.

Agreed punk was well underway before McLaren conjured up the Pistols, The Ramones were around, and before them the Dolls, right back to the Stooges, the Velvets and the MC5 of the 60's.

In the UK Dr feelgood could be considered a precursor of Brtish punk.

I always liked the later Punk bands such as Conflict and Discharge. Also American punk/hardcore and also Trash/PsychoBilly bands like The Cramps and in the uk Guana Batz and King Kurt, better than the Pistols and the Clash

He never denied that it was about anything else other than "the product " ,buses going to Nowhere and Boredom (original Pretty Vacant single cover) pocorn ,Bambi  , when it came to manufatured materialism he was annoyingly honest !
As for the Wombles they had  the original greenies signature tune with   Under ground over ground Wombiling free  that along with the other green 70's classic Crazy Horses by the Osmonds !
I must admit Harry  I never picked you as a Susan Boyle fan!
