I heard on the radio that with the melting ice becoming more widespread the polar and grizzly bear ranges are overlapping.
Grizzly bears out compete polar bears because the polar bear's jaw and teeth are not adapted to land-based diets (more vegetation).
Also there are polar-grizzly hybrids (and black-grizzly hybrids too - but that's another story, although the conclusion is that grizzlies are randy b*ggers with an eye for anything in a big fur coat)
