LOL

I thought it was a neighbour out on my deck.  FFS
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

UberGunner, you can't guess the richter because what you feel on the surface depends on the depth of the quake & the distance to the epicentre.  You can have a big quake eg. 7 richter, but really deep, say 100km and feel very little.  The shallow quakes (< 40-30 km deep) are the most destructive but felt in a localised area if at a decent richter.  Also depends on the the material that the structure you're on at the time.  "Solid" rock doesn't shake as much as sand.  Sand is like jelly in a quake.  You can quantify the shaking (Felt Intensity) by the Modified Mercalli Scale.  It goes from MM I to MM XII (1 - 12 in Roman numerals).  1 being "not felt" to 12 being "near total destruction".

I can guess if i like
I grew up in Southland and we always used to have bet on the size of a quake whenever we felt one. I dont have to know jack sh*t about it to have a wild stab in the dark do I?
