I imagine that most on here do it every day or two (except Smithy, but he will be due to start in a few years), so I thought this could be a place to discuss the process, tools, etc.

I have been using the Gillette Mach 3 for a good few years now and that is decent enough.  I tried the Gillette 4 blade one, but personally I didn't think it shaved as well.  I have also recently started using the King of Shave Serum, but I don't actually like it that much.  I find it weird to shave without foam (clearly see where you have been) and with the serum the fur sticks together in the basin when it is rinsed out of the blades. All looks a bit messy.

I have also decided that I will try to get a proper, barber-shop shave once a month or so.

Has anyone tried those razors that have a battery and appear to vibrate?  I have been curious of them, but they must be a jip.

Work takes me to Christchurch for a couple of days every month and I used to get a "proper shave" from a place there just off Armagh street which is of course now just rubble and dust. Need to find somewhere else here in welly that does a good shave with a cut throat razor. Great way to relax for the best part of an hour and a fantastic result shave wise!

Any one know of someone who does it in Welly?

Usually, I use the four blade Schick with a Gel Foam and once a week on a Sunday evening make sure I do a good job, usually shaving twice second time in opposing direction to the first time. Gives a really smooooooth finish and makes a morning shave for the rest of the week a relatively quick process.

Have not yet tried the vibrating razor, terrified what the movement along with the shaky hands after a night on the slops might do to my face!

I got a free vibrating razor from some promo girl once and it was sh*t. Those 4 blade ones have the blades too close together too and they just get clogged really easily. Schick Exacta 3 ftw!

I used a Remington electric razor for a while and found it took too long, didn't shave too well and felt like it was just plucking the hairs from my face which was most unpleasant. I much prefer a razor shave and am currently using a Gillette Fusion 5 blade thingy.

I find that using a pre shave face scrub in the shower and a post shave moisturizer type thing certainly work very well.

I've stopped shaving because of a skin thing and have found it quite liberating, although I look ridiculous (patchy, thin).  No-one is commenting at work because they know it's medical but I can see they're just waiting to mention it.  I'm intyerested in how long I can keep it up now because the original cause has pretty much subsided.  Up to 3 weeks so far...

I use the Gillette 5 blader with Gillette foaming gel. Does a good job. I think it doesn't matter how many blades you use. I've had 2 then 3 blade razors & all have done a good job. I think these vibrating razors are just a gimic personally. They give the impression that they work like an electric shaver, just like the vibrating toothbrushes. I always cringe when I see a old-fashion cut throat blade being used, especially on crime shows.

I notice that none of the female variety of Feverite are commenting. Do we then assume that they all either wax or have a massive thatch?

Haha I don't think I'd go with the old school blade kinda shave. Is it possible to wax your face? I'd like to watch.

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.

There have two things that have happened recently that have made me think of starting this thread, the first of which was telling a story about the shave I got in Turkey many years ago.  It was the works, including getting rid of hairs on the cheekbones and in the ears by setting my face/ears on fire and then patting them out.  A very "WTF????" moment when it happened the first time without warning (I was thinking "ooooh, he is waving a lit rag around - I wonder what he is going to do with that....").  It did make me think I must get that sort of thing done again soon.

The other thing was shaving yesterday morning before work.

Huzzah I have internet connection.

Barber shaves are truely awesome.

I've posted before that the 3 and then 4 blades actually make shaving worse. 3 good blades is enough if they are good enough. With a sharp trimming blade for under the nose.

I would like to find a decent brush as I get shavers rash. But aloe vera plants are good at getting rid of this and don't cost anything.

I think Gillette have gotten a bit sh*te over the last few years, but there is nothing else worthy of them.

Bloody hell don't try the Danish generic wet shaver unless you want to look like a a friggin bloke thats gone through a car window screen - hard bastards the danes.

I hate the "mutant hair" that has probably been growing for years but you've only just noticed. Also hairy nose hair on the outside  - what do you do?

Bloody hell I love a proper mans thread

I don't (yet) have a problem with hair on the outside of the nose, but a good nasal hair trimmer is vital.  If I go a week or two without going through the process, someone always pulls one of the hairs and waits for the butler to appear.

Nose hairs ? you cant beat a good old fashioned pluck!
Yes tweezers and watery eyes but the little bastards are gone for weeks !

Used the Gillette 5 blade Fusion manual since they came out few years back. Was told to wash blade head thoroughly and dry after every wash and see the difference it makes to life of the blades. Have had blade heads last two months after being particular!!...but usually can't be bothered or in a rush so usually max is 1 month before they start feeling blunt.

I did some manscaping a few weeks ago with an electric razor, but went a bit overboard.  It looked like my groin had just enlisted in the army.

I just use a beard trimmer these days as both electric razors and clean shaves were giving me a patchy red face! Designer stubble FTW!

Went and had a proper, old school shave on Saturday morning - it was lush.  Hot towels, fluffy foam, cut-throat razor, more hot towels, alcohol (ouch) and then moisturiser.  Add to that the eyebrow trim, fire in the ears and on the cheek-bones, shaving of the neck and and an arm massage and I was chuffed.

If there is anywhere that does it in Wellington, I highly recommend it.  If there is no where that does it in Wellington, I highly recommend someone opening a shop that does it.

Jeff, did you find somewhere in Welly?  Fort, where do you go?

Thinking the MoVember effort may need some TLC that the old 3 blade is just not fine enough for.

Two pages and not a mention of wet shaving with a double edge safety razor? I swear by my NZ made Goodfella. $95 but totally worth it. You can get something decent starting around the $60 mark too with other brands. Blades are $30 for $100.

Gillette and the rest aren't only inferior. They are the ink cartridge scam of the 21st century.

I've done the same. Gillette have been going down hill for the last couple of years. Too gimicky and they don't do the job.

Schick are ok far better than gillette but not great.
