Doing a speech for school on this and any input would be helpful.

Look at the reasons why NZ decided not to join the federation of the colonies in 1901, and see how they apply today.

That'd be my starting point anyway.

Yep, you could make quite a bit out of that, for whichever position you adopt in the speech.

NZ's a territory of Australia anyway, so I guess there's no problem with you lot pushing for statehood

I guess you could call the Phoenix/Warriors Aussie already as 50% of the squad is from aussie..

At least it would end arguments of whether Crowded House is a kiwi band.

Fact was established ages ago when the Finn brothers themselves stated "Crowded House is an Aussie band, Split Enz was kiwi".  NZ just has trouble letting go and facing the fact.

PS Pavlova is a kiwi invention

Totally agree. Band was based in Melbourne. 2 of the 3 members were Aussie. Just before they broke up, it was 2 Aussies, a yank and a kiwi. The lead singer of Manfred Mann was a kiwi but I've never heard us claiming them to be a kiwi band.

I'd agree surge, however the costs of Uni over there hurt the wallet a bit more, and they are less of a welfare state so student loans are available, but say hello to interest! I can think of a myriad of reasons for it to happen. But new's summed it up best TBH!

On a personal note I would definately head back to Brisvegas for awhile, awesome city, close to gold coast, lower taxes, only thing that screws you is that its full of aussies

I would put money on Surge being right there. I don't get why everyone loves the Gold Coast though.

Both my brain and heart say yes on this issue. Best bonus is that the Nix have a better reason to be in the A-League!

I don't mind the Goldie... but I only really ever went there for Indy, to see customers (pubs) and the odd cheap weekend away... I actually don't mind it... the 'burbs have quite a good feel, and Robina is going a bit mad with the shopping ctr & stadium... the sunshine coast is a bit less hectic - but even that has changed over the last seven yrs, heaps of developments tho they're not allowed to be as big as those on the Goldie which is a very good thing :)

It's 33 in Brissy today... my workmates are givin me heaps

We are what Singapore is to Malaysia.  Malaysia was a confederation whose leaders grew up together but frankly it was never to be.  Malaysia pushed Singapore out.
Australasian states grew up together but Fiji and NZ we a bit different.
NZ is heavily into indigenous rights in a way that is foreign to mainstream Australia.
So our outlook is "European with the Polynesian shirt".
