Does any one here use Slingshot for their ISP? Specifically anyone in Palmy.

I was looking at their unlimited plan, for my mum who lives up in Palmy. My 1/2 brother and 1/2 sister who live with her, have used their 80 gig Telecom allowance up in 16 days, and now their net is been slowed down. Last month it was similar, but I got her to up the plan from 60 gigs to 80 gigs before it slows down, and that got them thru til the end of the month.

This time she rung the call centre, the lady she spoke with suggested she just turn the slow down function off and pay the added $2 per extra gig charge. That just seems a recipe for a monster phone bill, so I'm looking at other options for her.

80 GB in 16 days?!

Impressive.  Maybe ask your siblings to tone it down a bit?

I have a friend in Wellington that is on naked Slingshot Unlimited, they use about 300GB per month. So the plan will definitely do what you need it to do.

Out of curiosity - unless you were running a business, how would you chew up 300 GB a month?

Just think though - the internet bill plus all the tissues, plus you wouldn't get out much.  Wouldn't be on that plan for too long.

Tv shows mainly, 1.3GB each for a 720p episode, four times a month, multiplied by the total number of shows. Gets quite high quite quickly. Plus add in all the football streams, thats about 1GB  per game.

you can save money on tissues by just having a bucket to catch it in...

Worst bit, is its not d/l movies or music so there nothing really to show for it. They were going under the 60 gigs before xmas, but then they started using Skype. Since then, the usage has gone nuts.

The plan would be good, I just never hear good things about Slingshot. So was hoping a few people on here might be able to give me good experiences. Being  in Upper Hutt, if anything goes wrong, it makes things hard to fix things by long distance.

Just moved away from Slingshot after 18mths or so to Airnet in Napier. Wasn't impressed with them at all!

It seems Telecom are doubling their data allowances soon, hopefully will fix the problem.

As long as skype calls don't increase as well.

I used TVNZ on demand for the first time last night - noticed there were options for screen quality ranging from 300 - 1500 k (whateever the unit is).  Watched Walking Dead on 300 and then Nikita on 1500 (yes I am pervy when it comes to Maggie Q).  Would imagine that could chew through the allowance if you didn't keep an eye on it.
