I <3 Nix Half Ironman

I've mentioned before on here that I intend to compete in the Taupo Half Ironman in December.  I'm slowly realising how expensive this is gonna be for me.

Does anyone on here have any experience in asking for sponsorship?  Just wondering the best way to approach this?  What is realistic?

I have been offered by a friend to have a chat with them if I would like to talk to them about sponsorship but I'm just not sure the best way to approach it.

Thanks in advance for your help team :)

Work out what you can do for them. Saying it will give them exposure to your five million Facebook and Twitter fans.  Exposure through this website and others.

You basically need to become a public relations machine. Everytime you mention the Iron man you must mention their name.

Start a blog on your training push their brand until you are sick of it then push some more.

Tattoo their name on your forehead, or change your name by deed poll.

Start a Give-a-little page stating that you are competing for "Taupo Awareness" or something similar. Set you goal to 3 times what you actually require then have an awesome weekend on the proceeds

I know a guy who managed to get SPARC funding from the government to go climb mountains in Tibet, although it was really just a big piss up. I also know another guy who raised money to drive a car from the UK to Mongolia where he sold it and gave the proceeds to the locals. It's apparently some big event that happens every year. But he doesn't have a charitable bone in his body, the whole thing was an excuse to get other people to pay for his European adventure which included lengthy detours to party towns like Amsterdam, Prague, and Riga.

Contact the "big" breweries (and by contact, I mean stalk), and get hold of a commercial or marketing manager - can probably get you a couple of names if it helps.

Do you know what you're after?

Follow in the footsteps of those who lead the way:  http://www.stuff.co.nz/oddstuff/6290857/Bottom-tat...

Bottom tattoo sells for $12k

A Hutt Valley woman put her butt online and it sold to a strip club.

Tina Beznec - "the Butt from the Hutt" - was selling space on her backside for a tattoo of the winning bidder's choice.

When auctioning closed at 5pm today bidding had reached $12,450....

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Tattoo it in such a manner that when the body part grows, it reveals $1,000.25?
