The BETA drops in 2 days, keen as to give this a whirl and will be pre-ordering the game.

Who else is getting on board? What platform?

Xbox One. I was concerned that DICE may stuff this one up as they did with the rushed release of Battlefield 4 (which as an aside, got a LOT better with a few updates and is not great and miles better than COD in multiplayer mode), but thinking about it, Star Wars is a once in a lifetime cash cow chance for DICE and EA.

Annoy SW fans and it's over, annoy Disney who now own SW and it's over...bascially, screw this up and your chance is gone. I have great confidence that BF4 learnings will be carried across.

Looks good. No single player campaign which would have been nice.

PC

Looks like it runs well - 1080p with max settings and average frame rate around 80fps from the test rig, which is not an extreme setup at all, in the video, I will have to cap fps to 60 for my monitor but should be able to run it max settings.

Will be interesting to see how it scales to 1440p and 4k, those graphics are pretty sweet.

Having seen BF4 which uses the same engine on both PC and Xbox One, the look should still be great on console.

Interesting no single player but given this has been a weakness where COD has overshadowed Battlefield franchise in general, maybe they decided to stick to what they were good at. There are plenty of SW campaign games out there already for differing ages and levels.

Yeah, xbox one and ps4 will run well. Maybe not as high frame rates, around 30 I assume. Not sure on resolution for xbox one but at least 900p which shouldn't make much difference from 1080 unless you are sitting too close to your TV anyway.

Edit: nice to see it is not going to have Batman Arkham Knight issues for PC.

Single player would be nice. I don't think you will be able to play people on different platforms which would be nice.

I'd hate to play vs a PC player with a console though.

Luckily I have Fiber100 going in next week!

Yes, that is an issue - frame rates and response times of monitors - could force controllers for PC for cross platform playing, I have a couple of 360 controllers. I'm not the best at first person shooters, will struggle with the twitchy mouse and keyboard warriors that will populate this game.

Battlefield would be a good practice for you. I imagine the movement and control will be very similar.

Rocket League had PC/PS4 cross play, and it doesn't really cause balance issues because you're just driving a car. In an FPS though, the people playing with a mouse will have a huge advantage.

Cross-platform between PS4 and XB1 could work, but that's even harder to implement.

We tried to get in on the beta action at work using a boat load of geo routes, hacks and fudging tricks but it was locked up tight. I know another bunch of guys that do IT at Monash Uni in Melbs that tried the same and also lucked out. I really hope they don't botch the release of it cause it looks outrageously good.

It wont work anyway because of Microsoftfs policies.  That's why the latest FF14 didn't go to Xbone.  They wanted all players to be able to play together irrespective of platform, and Microsoft wouldnt allow it.

It's looking very well optimised for PC: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/star-wars-battlefront-beta-vga-graphics-performance-benchmarks.html

Their test rig had a 5960x overclocked to 4.4ghz (since x99 also with ddr4 but no mention amount or speed of ram), so no bottlenecks to isolate gpu performance. Max at 1080p runs at 60fps for R9 380 (even could play at 1440 with average around 40fps (no mention of min frame rates).

Hopefully with less of 4 blokes acting like an episode of Big Bang theory about who would win a fight between John Snow and Darth Maul.

We currently have two screens going with in on. Game is good fun. We have noticed that you can use the jetpack to get out of any situation as it is almost impossible to hit you when using it. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader pretty much just run around and chop you or use the force and choke you out. The only downside is level 5 is the highest you can go at this stage but then again its only beta. Our flat is now waiting for the full game to play!
