Stupid questions

Remember - there are no such things as stupid questions, only stupid people.

Post your stupid questions here and hopefully one of the big brains who frequent this site will be able to answer them.

My question is related to Channel 9 Australia - is it possible to watch it live online? I am connected with an Australian IP address, but cannot find anywhere that allows me to watch live. The website (http://www.9jumpin.com.au/) seems to have millions of episodes of Ellen and The Block, but nowhere that I can watch me some rugby league.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

i usually watch the league on hahasport.com

it has a list of sports on the top of the page to find the league you have to go into OTHER on the right hand side.

They don't stream their content online :(

It is frustrating how much content is not available online in all territories. I have been looking at (http://www.foxsoccer2go.com/content) lately as an option for me to watch Football after we ditch Sky (It also includes NRL, AFL & Super League) for US$100.

I already pay for NFL, NHL & PLP online, and love the ondemand, and live coverage of these services.

I have a question for you Frankie Mac and I want an honest answer too...

Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?

I love the on-demand nature of PLP. More providers need to negotiate these into their online rights.

How can Newcastle United lose 2-1 at QPR? I mean QPR are bottom of the league for good reason.

If a Pope falls over in the woods and lands face first in some bear sharke and nobody is around to see it does anyone give a fudge?

Insomnia...

So about two weeks ago I started struggling with sleep (I have had very bad insomnia before at one point I went about a couple of months with no more than 3hrs sleep), I was getting ~2-3hrs sleep a night, it got to the point where I was unable to function (about 5 days in with a total of 12hrs sleep) so iwent and saw the Doc, she asked a bunch of questions, gave me some sleeping pills and suggested reduction of afternoon caffeine (Fair enough), so taking the sleeping pills.

Night 1: 6 hours sleep (Admittedly in two bursts of 3hrs each) - 6-7hrs is about normal for me...

Night 2: 5 hours sleep (8pm til 1am)

Night 3: 6 hours sleep (5hrs and then 1hr)

Night 4: ~4hrs sleep (Unsure as I was really restless and in and out with long periods awake)

Anyway now last night was night 6 on the pills, and I got about 5hrs again, now normally this wouldn't be an issue for me as I can get by on that much sleep, but the issue is that I am still waking in the middle of the night, last night I went to sleep about 9pm and woke at 12:30, and it then took me til 1:30 to get back to sleep, with my body giving up on sleep at 3:30am.

So now that you have the background my stupid question is: Does anyone have any ideas for how to help me, or should I go back to the Doc and ask her to see if there is something else that might work better?

I hear you mate. I go through similar from time to time and it becomes difficult when it is effecting she who must be obeyed as well

Try not going to bed too early even if quite tired and read for a while before turning out light.

Keep a notebook beside the bed to write anything down that you wake up thinking about. If you can't go to sleep straight away read again.

Cut out caffeine from 10 am including any fizzy drinks. Maybe try some Horlicks or hot milk before you go to bed .

Are you getting much exercise.  That always helps.

All little stuff that you have probably been told about but sleeping pills really a last resort

Thanks Jeff

Always read before bed, helps me wind down

Guess making sure I stay up to normal time is a good idea

Oh like the Notebook idea if I wake up thinking (Sweet), yeah normally if I'm lying there for more than 30 mins I'll get up and read for 15-20mins and go back to bed again.

Yeah since I saw the doctor I've had a total of 1 coffee after 10am :) (I miss it, but hoping it helps :P)

A bit of exercise, but being tired means it's slightly less than normal...

Hoping to jest get over the hump and get it back to normal, don't care if I only get 5hrs I just want to not wake in the middle of the night more than anything else.

yeah there's that theory that insomniacs should actually restrict sleep, to try and reset their body clock. Also, cut out blue light at night (but bright light in the morning is good, for circadian rhythm)

  • Sleep restriction. To increase a client's sleep efficiency, the therapist curtails the time in bed to the actual amount of time the client sleeps. For example, if a client usually sleeps six hours out of eight spent in bed, the therapist will advise her to go to bed only six hours before she needs to wake up. The restriction initially results in even less sleep than before, because she may still be awake for two of the six hours in bed. However, as her fatigue builds, she falls asleep faster and sleeps in a more consolidated fashion--also countering the conditioned arousal at bedtime. Once her sleep is highly efficient at six hours, the therapist gradually increases the time in bed, resulting in longer, more efficient sleep.

I downloaded f.lux, cuts out blue light on computer if you use it at night

Thanks Cosimo, think that makes sense, tough at the start though as I get less sleep and still have to work and deal with daughter, but it might be a good long term solution.

Talked to Doc today and he has given me a different pill, this one non-sedative which works on the chemicals that help you stay asleep, but said that all the other things need to be kept up, reduce evening screen time (Particularly smartphone), read/relax before bed, and try a slightly later bed time for a little while til I am sleeping again.

Try medidation. There are apps you can download which talk you through breathing sequences. I used one for a bit and it just meant my brain wasn't buzzing as I tried to sleep. Will try and find it for you.
