Spent the weekend in Hawera at the Davis Cup tie against the Phillipines. Naturally the level wasn't world class but it was good competitive tennis throughout, and we managed to win all 5 ties!

Michael Venus had a good 5-setter on Friday night, that was the highlight. He was playing the top Filipino chap, who in his prime was a top 50 player, but now spends his time being Sharapova's warm up coach (tough gig that). Doubles combination of Sitak and Daniel look reasonable as well.

Was very pleased, because if we lost we were gone, no way we were beating Taipei

Nope. Should make it to late in the tournament as usual.

Murray - Tennis' All blacks.

If Murray was a rugby nation he's probably more like France. Never number 1 in the world, goes quite far in big tournaments, beats top teams/players, but doesn't quite go all the way.

Tennis All Blacks is probably more Andy Roddick. Arrogant, has only won one major tournament, did that a long time ago, and can only win at home.

Andy Murray only the 7th man in the open era to make 4 grand slam semi-finals in a year. Yesterday, Djokovic became the 6th guy to do it.

Question for you guys:

Is Andy Murray better than Nadal and Djokovic, and he bottles it when he loses to them.

OR

Do you think Nadal and Djokovic are just better than Murray, and Murray just can't beat them usually in Grand Slams?

You can't have it both ways.Colvinator2011-09-10 08:18:36

Nah, Rafa and Djokovic are better and Murray just can't beat them, but he should have done it at least once.

Top 4 men's seeds all in semis - boring! Let's go Fed, 1 more slam to sign off on would be nice

Such an epic comeback from Djokovic, both after two sets and in the fifth. Sick. This Murray-Nadal match struggling to compare.

Murray is a worse player BECAUSE he bottles it.

So you think that Murray is actually a technically better player than Nadal, Djokovic, Federer? Big call.

No. Because his technique involves bottling it.

There is a difference between mental and technical.

Anyway, I think it's insulting to Nadal, Djokovic, Federer to say they can only beat Murray because Murray "bottles it".

The game is as mental as physical. And the aforementioned have superior mental strength to Murray. If anything, I'm giving those other players a compliment.

Well, that's an opinion quite a lot do have, and that's fine. I don't mind that, but I don't think what you said equals a "choke" when Murray loses. It would be a predictable loss based on what you think the abilities are.

Poor start in this current match for Murray, and currently fighting back from two sets down. Fourth set shaping up close so far.

Nadal was too good for Murray.

Djokovic vs Nadal final should be epic.

Any predictions... ?

Rafa in 4. But any result is possible, both will be tired, both similar skill level at the moment, should be very close and a great game

I'll predict Djokovic, as he has been by far the best player all year, even beating Nadal a couple of times on clay. Haven't seen much of him this tournament though. The Nadal whipping forehand has been tremendous this week.

I stuck around at Louis Armstrong a bit on Monday after the Djokovic match to watch some of Petkovic-Suarez Navarro but just couldn't get into it after the men's match. Simple really, women's tennis just doesn't have the power. Sure you can get longer rallies but then they are never as exciting as men's rallies. As it was I was much better served going and watching Tsonga defeat Fish on the big screen (no chance of getting into Arthur Ashe with an American playing).

Why do you like women's tennis so much 'Leggy'?

I don't particularly, but to to put them in the same sentance as the Paralympics is ridiculous.I very seldom watch womens tennis but I did this morning. Some of the power that those two had, they would beat some men. Sure not the top 50 maybe.

Well you have been hiding for the last two weeks, not a peep out of you (since you got mauled 8-2) and I just thought you may have stopped supporting that team and turned to tennis.
I would'nt blame you.
