Is it only me thats glad we lost? It means (hopefully) the Nix will
get some more attention, as all other sports are doing sh*te
anyway. If they'd have won we wouldnt have heard the last of it. At
the hotel we were staying at 3 channels were all netball! f**k me
it aint even a proper sport.

We should concentrate on us doing well and not how other codes are
going. i kinda see your point but being a patriotic Kiwi, I wanted
them to win!

Well considering that we means we won NOTHING this year...no, i'm
not glad they lost. :(

It was another dissappointing loss...well at least they didnt
choke
it
wasn't even televised here (over the ditch) I even have pay
TV
I
wanted to flick over from the nix to check the score and couldn't
even do that :(

I hope so.
The Ferns deserve our support, they're one of the tops teams in the world, they're great athletes, and they represent NZ. I'm gutted they lost, even though last nights result hurts more.
As for Netball not being a real sport, what do you base this on?

The fact there are only 2 teams in the world that are any good at
it? And who actually play it...Like i said, i cant stand netball
either. But some people do, so to ridicule their sport and be glad
we came 2nd in a 2 team tournament, is just wrong, not to
mention unpatriotic

at least they made the final i guess would have been a nice way to
cap off a very average year for nz sport. Only up point is that we
still have plenty of phoenix games to go!

That doesn't stop it from being a sport, it just makes it an undeveloped sport. There's no reason to challenge the legitimacy of netballers status as athletes because only three or so countries take the sport seriously.
Yes, three. Jamaica deserves props. They're rabid for the sport, and watching them in the semis, they could have beaten the Ferns. I'd love to see them win it some day...except that would be at our expense haha.

It could be a good thing for NZ football that none of the other NZ
codes won at World Cups. This means if the AWs can make South
Africa 2010, they will be national heroes and football will become
national sport (hopefully anyway) Inter rocks2007-11-18 14:28:56

Im all for them winning the cup. Im not all for the media scramble
for the next year if they did win it, with them all creaming
themselves over how fantastic NZ netball is and how Van dyke was
awesome eventhough the other players probably played better.

Why are people so hung up on competing with other sports? Rugby was
rather good, because of the one eyed view from its supporters and
the media as it being the only sport in nz.
But to wish us to lose in anything...is just the sort of thing
some of those rugby-heads do...you want to be as bad as them? Go
ahead....

Its all about competing with other sports, thats how you get crowds. + media attention = + interest = + crowds = + revnue for the nix

Why do people get so worked up over the Netball?! (Not you guys,
but others I've met). Only 2 countries take it seriously, Aussie
and NZ. I had someone say to me yesterday "your just pissed off at
it because England aren't in the final!" I have NEVER seen any of
the girls at my school in the UK play Netball at lunch times, PE
classes or known of any after school clubs! I can understand the
patriotic side of supporting the Silver Ferns, but theres a reason
its not a professional sport and all the players have other jobs.
Also, if NZ had a tiddlywinks side in a world cup of some sort
would the media and fans be sooooooo patriotic of it?! Even though
its a very, very, very small sport?!

'Cause we're good at it. Kiwis get very defensive... they support anything their good at (sadly, netball is one of them)

rugby is a pretty global sport though, north america is kind of the
only area that doesnt have a good team. The nature of the actual
game makes it more likely in football for a middle ranked team to
beat a top one whereas it's less likely in rugby.

Rugby - because we're consistently ranked in the top 2 in the world and more often than not #1. I'd say that qualifies as "good". World cup or no world cup.
Yachting - I agree, we are crap when it comes to the Olympics (exept for windsurfing) and the AC is just a bunch of franchises masquerading as nations.

Yachting's the sport of dicks so who cares
As the Dom Post pointed out this morning, we got golds in rowing and shotput, so let's focus on that and the off-field success that is the Phoenix and Yellow Fever.

It was shown live in Aussie on ABC... though admittedly it
had piss all pre-game publicity (because it was on the ABC
lol).
And bugger all post-game gloating to be fair.

I was remarking I found it quite bizarre in Oz and NZ to find hundreds of women playing Netball, everywhere you go during the season every Sat afternoon, courts full of women playing netball.
I don't think I've ever seen so many women playing sport in the UK, although perhaps with more sports facilities being indoor in the UK (Edinburgh a city of 450K has 8 sports centres - not including swimming pools, climbing centres etc), you're less aware of it in passing as you would be here or Oz

Good on them, it's a smart choice when Jamaica's economy isn't as strong. My rabidity reference is, if I remember correctly, Jamaica hosted the championships before Waitakere and it was a huge success in terms for support.

citizenship is the fact that I'd have to support the Australian
