Since we could be looking at about 7 months till the start of the next season, and I get bored easily, I was wondering would like to play a tipping/betting game?

This is how it would go:

Each player starts with $100
Every week you place a $10 'bet', from odds I post in the thread
If you do not post a 'bet', you lose $10 from your total
If you go below $0, you are knocked out.

I would try and post odds for you to choose from on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and aim to get some variety on what sports they come from. This might mean League, Rugby, AFL, maybe even Netball. They could be different types of odds, depending on what I think could be interesting.

Each week you could choose how many legs you wish your 'bet' to have. If you dont feel confident, you could just choose 1 option to place your $10 on. If your brave you might wish to take back one with 5+ in it. As with normal betting, bigger the risk, the bigger the returns.

So is anyone interested, or have any thoughts? Ryan's Rovers2011-08-24 15:12:01

Ok, we will start with this weekends NRL. These are head to head odds, and includes extra time. If its a draw after extra time, you get half odds.

PARRAMATTA EELS  (1.53)  v  PENRITH PANTHERS  (2.50)
CANBERRA RAIDERS  (1.48)  v  BRISBANE BRONCOS  (2.66)
MELBOURNE STORM  (1.53)  v  GOLD COAST TITANS  (2.50)
WESTS TIGERS  (1.48)  v  NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS (2.66)
NORTH QLD COWBOYS  (1.64)  v  NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS  (2.26)
SOUTH SYDNEY  (2.56)  v  BULLDOGS  (1.51)
SYDNEY ROOSTERS  (1.26)  v  MANLY SEA EAGLES  (3.90)
CRONULLA SHARKS  (4.65)  v  ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA  (1.19)

You can pick as many legs as you wish. Good luck.

Why would you pick more than 1 at those $1 odds? Surely a bet a week is 10 weeks minimum. Lose one out of those 2 bets and you're behind everyone else.

Shrug.

Or is it more of a multibet system?

You get 1 bet each week, and you choose how many results you want to predict. The odds are multiplied together, to give your return.

So if you choose 1 option, lets say the Dragons @ 1.19, and they win, you get $11.90 back, so gain $1.90 on your balance.

Using Stefan's picks as an example, if he gets 3/3 correct, he would get $45.09 back, so would gain $35.09 on his balance. But if he only gets 2/3 correct, he gets nothing back, so would lose $10 from his total.

Bloody hell you could go into cruise mode if that comes off. Might put mine in later on. Got to do some research, this is a serious game.

To be honest, I don't follow league at all... so I have no clue about these bets. I just chose what appear to be safe bets.

How about some Cricket World Cup next week?

You will rarely ever see me put money on the Warriors, particularly this early in the season.

Early season + plus that side of the ditch + don't think Tigers will play that badly two weeks in a row.
