The Best Albums of 2008

Some of my personal favourites during 2008 were:

The Bug - London Zoo

Just a wicked album of killer dancehall and dubstep. A great selection of MCs like Flowdan, Tippa Irie, Warrior Queen and Ricky Ranking cut it up all over Kevin Martin's menacing yet totally dancefloor-ready beats. Opens up another proud chapter in Britain's long reggae tradition.

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

Real American guitar music that taps into the spirit of Springsteen and the Replacements without ever sounding less than 100% original. This album should shame the Kings of Leon (the Southern Spinal Tap) into packing their bags and f**king off forever. The lyrics are great too. Any band that name checks Youth of Today and 7 Seconds in the same line is alright with me.

F**ked Up - The Chemistry of Common Life

The best punk release of the year which totally smashes and redefines hardcore's boundaries. In fact, this is basically prog-rock punk which is kinda f**king ironic when you think about it. And their bass-player is a chick called Mustard Gas. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Lil' Wayne - Tha Carter III

Definitely worth the hype, Lil' Wayne is just at the top of his game right now. The best rap release of the year, sorry Kanye.

Your nominations please...

Only by the night - Kings of Leon
Although some of it sucks Sex on Fire and Use Somebody are class. And Revelry is the best song of the year.

New Surrender - Anberlin
First album on a major label (Universal). A bit different but still great.

Cruel to be young - Jonezetta
COMPLETELY different to there debut. A first I hated it now I love it.

Breakout - Miley Cyrus
The fact that its about acne just makes it rule.

You Cross My Path - The Charlatans
Top to bottom an awesome album, cool live when I saw them last year aswell.

Formation Of Damnation - Testament
Another epic album by these Thrash Metal legends and some of my favourite songs by this band on this album.

Sense Of Purpose - In Flames
Not one of the best albums by these guys but still another good album by these guys.

Death Magnetic - Metallica
A vast improvement compared to St Anger (not that it was difficult) with some nice tracks and some decent drumming thankfully.

Elemeno P - Louder Louder
Don't think there's a track on here i really dislike. Very good album.

Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

One word. Brilliant.

Three for me, and two for them.

Genesis - Live over Europe

From their Last tour in 2007, has all their hits from the last 30 years including a brand new drum duet.  One live album you got to listen to

Working on a Dream - the Boss's best release since Nebraska, very much along the lines of darkness on the edge of Town & Born to Run & The River. Glad he has gone back to what worked best.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!

Just to annoy Hard News:

Songs From The Sparkle Lounge - Def Leppard

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
