Bo Jackson is a good one.

Thoughts on Slater?

How do we define a sportsman, Walter Raleigh did it as a part of the Navy so non-competitive? Or was it competitive to find land first?

Webb-Ellis is the worst, invented egg chasing.

You have to define Slater in competitive surfing. Think someone like Tom Curren would have given Slater more of a run if he participated in more years on the tour, probably has a better win % (tour wins/entries). Slater though, for longevity and also bridging different generations of surfers/styles is amazing - from a competitive stand point the best.

More likely Grandma Halberg, I'd think.

Eddy was the greatest. If you watch some of his races he is insane. He would just destroy others with his engine and his mind.

Tom Curren or Mark Richards for sure, especially around innovation and even more so, Tom Carroll because he also adds the big waves surfing (proper big waves surfing, 30 foot plus) but would be Slater for me given the way he surfs and combines old school riding with aerials etc.
