Okay then I am not one of these people who glare at other peoples kids in public when they are making a disturbance, in fact I hate those people who do that, having got younger relatives who get a bit crazy (like all kids) I wont judge someone else kids if they are misbehaving, in saying that their has to be a limit, and there has to be a time when a parent/caregiver starts to take control. I think kids should be able to be kids in public, even have meltdowns, or just generally act stupid.

Its the parents reaction that gets to me.

For example I was in this cafe, having a quiet meal, (the cafe was a normal run of the mill cafe, not way over the top posh, but it was nice) A mother had a couple of children there, the oldest was probably nine the youngest around six or seven.

Well the kids started running around, the youngest had a toy car which he liked to bang on other peoples tables, while the oldest, screamed lets play tag they were hiding behind myself and other people at this cafe, behind the chairs etc etc, laughing, bumping into people, well the cafe manager came out and gave them a look that said dont do that

Well the mother was beside herself, she stood up and screamed Dont have fun kids, remember dont have fun, your not allowed to laugh or be happy then she started cracking up and giving people dirty looks while still saying Oh your having to much fun, the police are going to come now The lady she was with was cheering her on.

Like I said, Kids should be allowed to be kids, but was this too over the top, or am I being grumpy???? The place wasnt fastfood, it was a nice cafe, not sandwiches but meals.

I always tie mine up to a tree outside.  Maybe give them a bowl of water and some oats if they've been good.

Win-win.

Sounds like Mum was having a bad day.

Kids are kids but allowing them to rampage around pissing people off in cafes etc isn't on. My 3 (aged 3, 5, and 9) don't get away with it when we're out. They have fun but know how to behave.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

What a selfish cow. And if she thinks she's being a great parent, she's sadly mistaken. Not teaching kids how to behave in public just sets them up to be resented and alienated in later life.

You're right. Her reaction was terrible. She could have asked them to calm down a bit,but still play. If they didn't well at least you'd know she recognizes it is annoying.

That reaction tells her kids they can do whatever the hell they want without regard to anyone else. It actually would have been better had she just sat there and let them continue. She effectively told the cafe patrons off instead of her kids. Mental.Tegal2012-01-16 12:54:49

You know who is the boss in that family.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

What kind of sandwich did you have?

I hope you wind down the window so they don't overheat.  Not so much a problem when it is 3 am in the morning at the casino.

I've worked at a cafe for two years now and have never seen anything like that before. What we get a lot of the time is when Kids scream at the top of their lungs in the middle of the cafe and the parents will be very passive and act like nothings happening.

Kids on aeroplanes are often a nightmare. I had a kid sitting behind me on a flight on wednesday who thought it was a good idea to repeatedly shake the sh*t out of my seat. It took a glare at his mother before she attempted to stop him though. I put up with it for awhile thinking she'd realise what he was doing could a touch annoying for the person in the seat. That and I hate complaining.

Fuck this stupid game
