next season with Luke and RTS and for that matter, Johnson and Leulai back can't come soon enough
The Mighty Warriors - Fever League Fred
The Warriors have been disappointing for me. they have been for 20 years plus
We really missed Johnson in the first half when we on attack for about 20 mins. Just couldn't finish and it cost us.

The old girl was quite angry about last nights performance. As she said, how can a clubs' fortunes be so pivotal on just one player in Johnson? That's not the sign of a top side..

yep another next season call. I don't see any hope this year do you?
With the above spine however I think we can give it a shake.
RTS is going to be a legend.

Canberra, Canterbury, Newcastle, all Prem winning sides who lost one player and collapsed. It happens.
Still think they could get there, but unless they can tighten up their edge defence it wont happen.Think last nite showed promise but they got lost a few times and no one seemed to wanted to take charge on attack. Manu may take the ball forward well but shark are there some tries scored down his side but NO ONE is ever game to point that out. There was just a passing mention of his rushing in last nite none of them has the balls to criticize him.

As it was when Stacey Jones was playing.
I'm gutted we will be loosing Friend, as I have always preferred him to Leuluai, but you can understand he doesn't want to be 3rd on the list for game time.
We can still make the top 8, but we wont beat one of the top 3 with how they have been defending.
But how many times have the Warriors been counted out, then the creep into the top 8 doing exactly the amount of work required to get there?
This weekend really will be the decider, as long as Benji doesnt run circles around us and we give them a thumpiung then we may have enough confidence to get another couple of wins.

Shark yea we do, but as I say, the Warriors have a habit of leaving it to the last minute to make it into the top 8, So I can see it happening again.

He wouldn't have been 3rd on the list. Leuluai will play in the halves next year as Townsend is goneeeee
Oh shark yea I forgot he was moving to the halves.
Still he wants to be a starting player and doesn't want to be second fiddle to a different player, I can understand that.
The new interchange quota for next year and the fact that Isaac Luke can play 80mins is a large reason why the Warriors can pretty much cope with others and not a permanent deputy (notwithstanding injury)
I know Hurrell has his critics, But why drop him this weekend. He can only play himself into some form by playing

I love him when we have the ball... but he really has to lift his game when we're without it.
What happened to Manly?
What happened to Manly?
Crazy eh. Heard 11 players let go as well.
Really glad I didn't go in for tonight's game.
Well that was a fkn waste of time. They just turned it up and showed no fight.fkn disgusted and I have been a warriors fan since say one and I just can't get over their lack of fight.
They have always been a joke.
Piss poor. 18K not a bad croud, they deserved better.
Croud was great, weather was shark, league was worse.
Well that was painful, 6 months of D training I hope.
terrible.
I see that Doyle and McFadden are blaming the old culture at the club for their current prediciment
Everything wrong with the Warriors for mine is reflected in Konrad Hurrell.
Here is a bloke who is 24 years old and 60 odd games in the NRL.
He has so much natural talent and potentially could be a great player. He should now be really maturing as a player and taking the next step up
Now, McFadden has now had a reasonable amount of time with him first as an assistant and now as the first team coach. This includes a full pre season.
I can't see any improvement in him as a player since this coach came on board and if anything he has regressed.
It's fine to blame the culture and the players but if this coach can't get a player like Hurrell to turn the corner is he the right coach?

I kind of agree but the culture issues of turning up late would be hard to curb. And the issue where people turn up out of shape at seasons start, you only get one of those a year so he has only had one of those to date.
If he gets their training consistent between now and next season we could be a totally different team next year where out of the gate we could be strong.
If that doesn't happen then it's on cappy.

The Warriors are in an interesting position (and not necessarily a good one depending on your view) because they have come out and hitched their wagon to McFadden whom is a young coach at 37. He lacks a lot of experience and potentially the ability to yet figure out how to develop players. He may be great at training, dissecting a poor performance and being a hard bastard but does he have the ability to help players improve? I think Hurrell is an excellent point raised above but he did turn up last year massively out of shape so is he necessarily the full quid as a professional? Does he listen to what he is told based on previous history because its pretty clear, he doesn't. Not all players are like Michael Luck and Kevin Campion and are pros so perhaps Hurrell needs a boot in the ass and told that unless he learns to defend, then he will be left on the sideline.
Having publicly backed him, Doyle obviously knows something we don't because they gassed Dean Bell and he is a legend of the game. That was a huge call so you have to assume that they really were not happy with the culture of the club and Bells role in shaping that. Doyle has made 2 bloody great signings for next year too - would they have happened with Bell and Scurrah? I think Doyle is a brilliant operator so I have no reason to disbelieve what he has said which does not paint a great picture of Elliott, Bell or Scurrah
I think Hurrell turned up the off season before having eaten the pies.
This year I think he turned up ok but it is how he has regressed this year that I am concerned about.
On more then one occasion we have heard that the key to the Warriors is how to manage and motivate the locals (I am being pic here).
I haven't seen anything from cappy that demonstrates yet he is the one to motivate them
The issues for the Warriors are highlighted to me when I wonder about players like Hurrell, Lousi, Ikahihifo, Lolohea, etc - and begin to think if they went across the ditch and spent a couple of years in Melbourne, Brisbane, or Sydney, they'd come back (much) better players (or not come back at all unless they're wearing black).
Our guys with talent have a pretty easy ride from U-20's to first grade when you compare them with their mates across the ditch. My old boss' kid in Brissy was a promising fullback a few years ago (made age grade rep teams, etc) and the things the kid did around training and preparation, etc just blew me away - knowing that those competing for the same spots were doing the same, or more. And he was one who never even made it to the Toyota/Holden/Kia/Whoever Cup.
Our kids don't get that competitiveness, they've gotten to where they are on talent (which is fair enough) and the Warriors HAVE to instill that work ethic and professionalism into them. They aren't bringing it with them. Evidently, this isn't happening - and until it does, we won't win a premiership.
Hopefully, at last, that is beginning to change.

Yea that's true. You and Jeff hit on a good point I hadn't thought about which is how to motivate the players.
He did so well out of the gate last year when he dropped fan favourites because they weren't performing including Hurrell, and when they realized they weren't untouchable they pulled their thumbs out of their asses. But there has to be more to getting the best out of a player than the threat of being dropped.
It may just be he doesn't have the experience, maybe he needs a really good assistant coach, or maybe he needs to spend some more time being the assistant coach.
I believe Iro is rated very highly both here and in Australia as an assistant and players rate him too.

And I think there you hit the nail on the head. If Hurrell or Lousi were playing for those teams this year I am sure they they would be tearing up.
Lousi really needs a change of scene if he is going to become a proper player

Just had an interesting thought following on from the (lack of) motivation thing... the Ocker kids growing up see playing NRL/Origin as the pinnacle, there is nothing else that even comes into their (tiny) little minds from when they're old enough to spell XXXX and pick out Winnie Blues from Winnie Reds.
Kiwi kids on the other hand, are more likely to aspire to be AB's, and will be exposed to a fair amount of rugby whilst they're growing up (even if they're from a league family/area) and will almost definitely be playing rugby in their teens - and at most schools, the first XV is the one to be .
I wonder whether that forms an intrinsic/internal motivation that some of our guys lack. Playing for the Warriors (by default) almost infers you didn't quite make it in rugby, but you were offered a chance to be a pro, get on TV, etc, via the Warriors U20's.
May well be (and probably am) completely off the mark but it may be a factor for some. But then, what would I know.
(well, I do know a little about changing culture - it's not east, but it can be done... and it's not simply a top down thing).
