Sorry, I'm a teacher, I've got to join in, I have no choice.
1) Kids who think that "versing" is a word, and we have a whole nation of them. That is, "who are we versing this week?" rather than "who are we playing?". NB: versus, not verses.
2) Brought/bought getting confused. The rule is piss-easy brought-bring, bought-buy. Simple.
3) "Chomping at the bit". The saying is "champing" not chomping. Don't use terms you don't understand, it emphasizes your ignorance.
4) "He squashed the rumour". It's "quashed" not "squashed". Ditto above.
There's lots more, I'm sure I'll bring them up when they come to mind. You lucky people...

Of all the classroom petty annoyances I have, it is the confusion of 'there' and 'their' that irks me. Sadly some of our trainee teachers are little better...HarryHotspur2008-07-24 19:49:24
