In preparing for his role and the movie Baron Cohen attended a Grimsby game dressed in a team shirt, and spent time in local bars.

"We saw him in the town and he wasn't with any fat birds then," angry local Richard Finn told the Sunday Times.

"You get lasses of all shapes and sizes here, but we're not the only place in the country to have a few big ones."

Alan Rutherford added: "It's a myth that everyone here is obese and misbehaves. People just like to pick on Grimsby. It's a disgrace — leave us alone."

An 11-year-old Celtic supporter has won the Scottish Professional Football League’s January goal of the month competition by a landslide – collecting 97% of the votes.

Jay Beatty – who has Down’s syndrome – was invited to come on to the pitch at half-time during Celtic’s 2-0 win at Hamilton to take a penalty, which he converted to rapturous applause. Hamilton went as far as announcing the result as 3-0 on Twitter and after Beatty’s effort was included on the shortlist for goal of the month, there was only going to be one winner.

Picked up last season's NUFC shirt at the RYOS stadium shop after the game today. $45.

Nice to come away from the game with a positive.

I have included a Ned Zelic-ism in a match report for Jnr Jnr's team.

Next week I will attempt a "trail of destruction" or "thought process".

Done! I have now used the following Zelic-isms:

  • Individual brilliance
  • Thought process
  • Create havoc
  • Attacking philosophy

Must include in future:

  • Trail of destruction/pure devastation
  • Attacking philosophy
  • Caressing the ball (maybe not for school boy football)
  • Rainbows, ponds, lion cubs

And now with added Harper-ism: "Extreme violence"

I don't know if this is "positive" but thanks to security there was no tragedy at the football match itself: http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/europe/74048021/paris...

We are extremely fortunate when our security concerns are bottle caps at WC games.

I saw this on Sunday and it makes me proud. I went to Mitre 10 in Upper Hutt and across the road at Maidstone park a whole pile of guys were having a kick-a-bout. Three of them were wearing Phoenix jersies. I believe, the Nix are finally breaking down the barriers and creating their own culture. Saw no EPL jersies so was impressed with this.
