Isn't there a thing called twitter or facebook for this kind of thing?

I put this on twitter and someone replied "isn't there a thread about music on yellow fever for this kind of thing?"

I can't win

Twitter is for campaigns to give the homeless moisturiser and hair conditioner.

It's facebook you want.

my facebook is too full of people I barely know telling me that they are in some god-foresaken rural shithole NZ backwater doing stuff that I am not interested in.  No way I can squeeze anything else into there.

Bit unnecessary and have you not missed the irony of your post?

I remember a couple of us taking the  piss out of your music tastes awhile back and since you returned to the UK, all we ever hear about is what band you are going to see. Are we supposed to be jealous? There's never any detail about the gigs, like other people post when going to gigs. Nothing about set lists, the venue, the crowd, how good so and so played this and that. When you post it's like something out of a celeb-spotting blurb from Women's weekly.

You know your stuff about football and I always get something from your posts as they usually have  a slightly different angle the most.

This music thing is just a bit smug. It's like 'look at me going to all these bands and footy matches and you are are stuck in a shitehole I bet you wished you had my life'. - Well we don't. I love my little house near the sea and would not swap it for a place in London not in a million years. I could fly to London and walk into a job in under a week if I wanted to - I don't.

Sure I miss the bands but I've seen a gazillion bands in the past, like you I used to see around 3-4 a week at times and there ain't many I'd actually want to go and see now. The crowds are rubbish these days anyhow and if I do have a jump around I feel it for a week after.

If you are going to go on about how amazing everything is and how sh*t the rest of us our for choosing to live in NZ then actually use your writing talent and put some effort into it.

I nominate Frankie for the YF Wind Up Merchant (to be elected at the AGM tonight).  I think he has held this position in an honorary capacity anyway.

F*ck off Frankie.

Wgtn is most definately not rural.

And I fail to see what isn't interesting about Segway golf.

Yeah but wouldn't it be nice if he'd actually fucking tell you what a gig was actually like rather than a tedious list of his life?

Frankie - The Hold Steady - Thought they got a bit bloated after Boys and Girls but still an excellent band.

This is what I put in the other thread about the hold steady gig - please let me know if you need more details about my tedious life

Went to see the Hold Steady at Bush Hall last night. Cracking gig in a cracking little venue.  Absolutely broken today as a consequence.

Edit to add the review

http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/06/the-hold-steady-live-at-bush-hall-review-we-had-a-massive-night-every-song-was-right-4716241/

Bush Hall is really small so no matter where you are you are close to the band. They ran out of plastic cups so it became really old school with everyone wandering round swigging from cans of lager. The new songs that they did were ok but the place went nuts for the older stuff that everyone knew (Chips Ahoy, Stay Positive, Summer).

No pics. Was wearing very sweaty clothes by the end of the night (it was very hot in there and I spent the last few songs bopping about at the front)

Well he goes to gigs doesn't he? Or not?

PS New thread suggestion - your first gig. Who? Where? How good/bad?

Mine: Steampacket at Khandallah Town Hall. Onslow Coll band playing Mayall/Small Faces/Kinks/Spencer Davis covers. FANTASTIC!

saw Prince last night, and it was pretty funking awesome. He dressed like an old Jewish women who lives in Miami, but him (and 3rd Eye Girl) where really good. On stage for about 2 hours, it was just a relentless chain of hits. Highlights for me were a more funky version of Lets go Crazy (opening song), Nothing compares 2 u, and When doves cry (released 30 years ago this month apparently - that made me feel old). Not so good was Purple Rain (final song and a bit over-blown), not doing Darling Nicki, and not doing the splits and then bouncing back to his feet again (although, to be fair he is either a 55 year old man, or a 83 year old women, and neither of them could be expected to do that on a regular basis). I am not the world's biggest Prince fan, but there was probably only 2 or 3 songs I didn't know.

Funniest part of the night was when he did Kiss, and tried to get everyone to sing alternate lines with him - half the crowd trying it in his amazing falsetto, with the rest trying to sing it normally - it just made the whole thing sound weird.

No more of these in case FT's head explodes.

Funken Hell! Still a talented guitarist. Go see Joe Bonamassa when he is next over Frankie. If I had the dosh, I'd go to his Auckland concert. Shame he's not coming down here but then that would be showing some initiative from the Wellington event centers.

Looking forward to seeing The Beat at Bodega this Friday.

If you've never seen the film Dance Craze before you are really missing out. All the 2-Tone bands feature including The Specials, The Beat, Madness and The Selecter. The footage and performances are fantastic - the best concert film ever made in my opinion. Here's a link to the whole film on Youtube:

Also, here's a cool little documentary on 2-Tone by Channel 4:

No idea this was happening and I'm working with no way to get time off, as there is no one to cover me. The wife knew apparently about "some stupid concert" - gutted.

It's "The English Beat" which is basically just Dave Wakeling but still going to be a cracking gig.

So, so many good songs.
