OzKiwi has drafted a letter of complaint to News Corp, which it has posted on its Facebook page. It has gathered more than 1000 signatures for a "massive class action" against the media giant, which would be launched if the group did not receive a retraction and apology, Mr Faulkner said.

I bet that they claimed those 1,000 signatures from New Zealander's by going down a dole office in Sydney for about an hour.

The point I was trying to make with my link caption was that the Chinese in the late 19th century/early 20th century & then the Asians in general in the early 1990's were treated in a similar way by the NZ media & some sections of NZ society.  We're quick to forget that.

Going to see a movie that is longer than 2 hours this afternoon, which happens to be the parking time limit on the streets.  Did the same last year and got a ticket for it - fair cop.  What's the alternative apart from parking buildings which charge like a wounded bull (will not use a certain company on principal)?  I guess there's public transport but I really can't be bothered.

Didn't get a ticket this time despite going out to dinner as well.

From the Demi-onion Post thread:

Junior82 wrote:

Not quite the right place for this but it is useful to illustrate the different perspectives placed by each organisation on the same news item:

In chronological order:

1. Stuff: http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/south-pacific/9561670/Third-icebreaker-to-attempt-rescue Concentrates on the feelings of the passengers.

2. NZ Herald: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11179140 More factual and covers the options for an air rescue.

3. Guardian: http://www.theguardian.com/world/antarctica-live/2013/dec/29/trapped-antarctic-passengers-air-evacuation Much more detail about a rescue operation and conditions leading up to the stranding and subsequent efforts to reach the vessel.

My non-journalistic take on this: Stuff is much more lightweight and more looking for some sensationalism than the Herald or the Guardian.

After the passengers were airlifted off and the Oz icebreaker set course for Tassie there has been not much more in these outlets (a US ice breaker is on the way to assist the Russian and Chinese vessels).

So it falls to the state-run media to provide more helpful information:

http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/202936/8503664.html

"Ice floes near the vessel are up to 4 meters thick. Xuelong can break ice of 1.1 meters.

Polar Star, the US Coast Guard's heavy polar icebreaker, was leaving Sidney, Australia, on Sunday morning to assist Xuelong and the Russian vessel. The 122-meter US ship is able to continuously break 1.8 meters of ice at about 5.6 km per hour and 6.4 meters of ice by reversing and ramming it, according to the US Coast Guard."

For anyone watching  the Argentina England 1986 match on ESPN, the commentator isn't from that game is he? Feels like he's a current commentator for some reason.

After 17 years we have replaced our top loading washing machine for a sexy front loader (Bosch) c/o the boxing day sales.

It arrived today but the cold water hose (metal) connection to the tap doesn't screw on at all.  So am using the old top loader hose (nylon connection) while I ask the store to sort it out (or I might have to end up getting a plumber in to charge me losts of money to put in a new tap or construct some sort of adaptor).

But if it's working why change anything? The old Nylon hose  connection that is.

True. Just a bit surprised that the new shiny advanced machine has a hose that doesn't hook up to a standard tap.

It has a fancy "auto stop" valve which might be useful. Dunno.

So am happy to use the hose and connections from old faithful until the store can sort it out.

Plumbing tape! That's all it took. 95 c from Bunnings.

That moment when you read someone proclaiming something as fact and you ask them  to, in this particular case, point you to a "link or something"  that supports their claim....  and they reply   "look it up. why do people who are poorly educated on a subject always ask for proof? if you really cared about the subject you would have found it years ago."

Hilarious. You should have replied "why do people who are so poorly researched never have any proof?"

Looking for a Chinese sweet corn recipe and got this:

Under 3, mushroom, carrot dices, digestibilities, modified by after the fire to boil in a small fire for 20 minutes.

Under 4, chicken, boiled for about three minutes after boiling burning.

5, in the amount of salt, Sheng after the mix into the Bowl on the table.

Warm Tip:

1, good mushroom to be placed in cold storage in the fridge is no loss of nutrition;

2, bubble mushrooms do not discard the water, many nutrients are dissolved in water;

3, put mushrooms soaked in water, gently tapping with chopsticks, sediment will fall into the water;

4, if the mushrooms clean water for as long as the net, so you can save the mushroom flavor.

Mushrooms contain vitamin d, crab is also rich in vitamin d, both edible, will make the content of vitamin d in the human body is too high, resulting in increased calcium, gallstone symptoms caused by long-term consumption.

He played against Oldham on Saturday and I was watching the highlights, he looked like he was a pretty difficult guy to mark. Our manager came out after the game saying he is an incredibly difficult guy to play against. I guess not many defenders would have experience marking that kind of guy.

Roadworks near us today. Lots of cones around. Walking home I see a bus, stopped, with about thirty cars banked up behind it. Bus driver is leaning in the horn. In front of the bus is a 4X4,  with a trailer, blocking the lane and the driver absent.
As I got closer the driver appeared carrying a large box of beer from the nearby shop.  He heard the bus, immediately stepped out in the road in front of it, gave the driver the finger and yelled 'f** off... "  then put his beer on the front seat and drove away.
