A friend and I once made a Mormon cry after letting her in to talk to us and then rubbishing their entire belief system, we felt guilty but it was for her own good. (this was during our Uni days and we were both doing religious studies alongside our anthropology papers so we knew more about her religion than she did)

You do realise that doing that 'for her own good' is pretty much the same thing as them doorknocking.
All we did was point out the inconsistency's and contradictions in her arguments and she got really upset when she didn't have the answers. I have no problem with religion as long as people are able to think for themselves, but people who recite the "gospel' according to 'blah" without understanding it or realising its origins tend to make me irate. as bad as chuggers with a bible

Which raises another point. Road work signs that say 30 kms on a stretch of higway when there's no work being done there and no one about to be working there. It's as if the wok was done two weeks before and they have yet to pick up their signs. You'll find this at Takapau at the moment. And closer to home along the River Road. More cones there than in an Ice Cream parlour.

People who stand in the cycle lane as if it's an extension of the footpath, and then look miffed when you ding your bell and yell at them.

That being said my fellow cyclists sh*t me as well, when they sail through red lights, mount the pavement, and generally act like they're above such mundane concepts as "the law" or "common courtesy".

Traffic cones have unbelievable power.  Anyone can buy them but when you see them you mindlessly obey without stopping to think of their purpose or legitimacy.
A mate of mine lives in Arch Hill here in AK and he puts them outside his house whenever he goes out for a few minutes in his car. He's never had anyone challenge them, people just consider them to be sacrosanct.
"The cones are out" is also an excellent euphemism for when your partner's got the monthlies, a little bit like "up on blocks".

Didn't work for me. Answered the door naked back in Tauranga to get two elderly ladies. They TRIED to maintain eye contact, but just couldn't

Tip - can't speak for Mormons, but I know Jehovah's Witnesses carry around a black book with addresses of houses to avoid. You can even get on the list by asking politely - I simply said "Look, I respect your right to believe what you do, and your right to promote those beliefs in a non-intrusive manner. However last time you visited, you left behind some homophobic literature suggesting my sister was going to hell simply because she's a lesbian - something she cannot change, and shouldn't have to change. Could you PLEASE not harass us any more?"

Naturally that tact won't work with groups like Destiny which get off on being homophobic, but it can work with some of the more reasonable faiths (oh my god did I just call the JW's reasonable?! )

I just don't understand what they think gives them the right to push their beliefs onto others by trespassing on their property.
I don't go knocking on doors giving people Jam CDs and saying,"You really should listen to this, it changed my life and can do the same for you". I respect the rights of others to like what they want to like and believe what they want to believe. Just because I'm into something, doesn't mean everyone (or anyone) else is or their views need changing.
What they do is morally and ethically wrong, not to mention downright rude.

Another thing that pisses me off is text speak. Why can't people type messages in normal language?? Spelling is bad enough (I should know, I specialise in bad spelling) without having to decipher text crap. I even type my text messages in long hand, that way people know what i am trying to say with using a decoder ring!

Classic example is this.....i work full tyme and and study as well and take things as they come reali.i enjoy going out wif m8s bt love my qiute tyme just as much.laying by beach on a premo day or goin 4 a drive wif gud music turned up loud!i enjoy da outdoors heaps bt dont get tah do it dat much tho.love laxn out watchin a gud movie esp afta a hard da.......

Why not spell Tyme as Time - the correct spelling?? qiute time? FFS!

IMNSHO text speak is only acceptable when using a mobile phone and having to work within SMS's character limits.  It really pisses me off when people have a full size keyboard in front of them and still do it.....

Oh - AND PEOPLE THAT WRITE ALL IN CAPITALS AND MAKE MY HEAD HURT DUE TO ALL THE SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!!! (and people that use way too many exclamation marks)

Oh - and people that use "your" instead of "you're" and vice-versa

Wow - I could go on all day!

It pisses me off when people say things like "The edge is a good station cause it plays new music"

My parents both smoke even though my father had triple bypass surgery in 2000 and is currently in hospital having had another heart attack. They would dearly love to be able to quit and have tried so many times over the years, but the addiction is just too strong for some. I feel for them, they are on a pension and have bugger all money and so much of it goes to Rothmans to pay for an addiction that the tobacco companies worked so hard to ensure was nigh on impossible to beat by manipulating nicotine levels.
My parents claim that when they were young they weren't told it was bad for you. I reply that if they couldn't see that inhaling smoke through a respiratory system that is actually designed to repel such things is a bit daft then they were plain dumb. and then I feel bad cos I know how much they'd love to not smoke.
It breaks my heart because my dad was in tears when I told him that I was having a kid and then when I told him it was going to be a boy (found out last Friday) he cried again. He's a lovely man who his grandson will love dearly if he gets to know him, which is looking more and more unlikely.
The f**king tobacco companies should be sued out of existence. There are many companies in this world in all fields whose commitment to making a profit ensures that they are unethical, but the tobacco companies are the worst. Dealers in death for profit. I'd happily fire the bullets that killed every one of them. Pack of c**ts.

People who like music "because it's Kiwi". I used to work in a bar in AK that is called The Kiwi Music Bar. we'd get people who'd come in and say "I love Kiwi music". All of it? 90% of NZ music is sh*t, just like every other country.

They can't ban smoking because it's too ingrained in our society. Generally most smokers are working class and would be up in arms if what they see as one of their simple pleasures was taken from them. It (like alcohol and lotto) is used a a suppressor of the masses - keep the plebs happy. All three (smoking, drinking and gambling) are treated like a regressive tax - the poorer you are, the more you are likely to pay.
There'd also be an enormous black market in tobacco that sprung up over night.
If the government really wanted to stop it, they'd tax it a whole lot more. Triple the tax, make them cost $30.00 a packet. But they won't, cos then they'd lose the tax revenue.

When bands drastically change there musical style because they are "experimenting". I don't mind bands trying new things but please keep the core style of music especially if your good at it.

Most of Chris Knox's stuff fits into the good 10%. He still plays gigs but hasn't released anything in a while, as far as I'm aware.
Incidently, Real Groove magazine has been sold by Real Groovy to a company called Image. Most of the staff are rapt.
And kiwi punk fans, stand by for the mother of all reunion gigs later in the year. I can say no more...

I thought the same too after my mother tried to give up smoking again and again over 20 years.  As soon as she got a big enough scare she quit (with pharmaceutical help) after 40 years of 20-40 a day.  I don't want to start an anti smoker flame war and the situation with a lot of people sucks but after seeing what she went through I firmly believe that anyone can give up with enough desire and support.  I'm all for tobacco companies taking some of the heat on this but anyone that started smoking in the last 30 years should know better.

As for banning cigarettes it's simple.  Money.  Every bought duty free smokes?  That's how much money the government makes on them.  Naturally they'll argue the fact that they need to money to pay for the health burden that smokers put on the system but there's no way that tobacco would get into the population if it was discovered today........

That's all from me on this subject.
