Ferrett or Fellet or whatever his name is, does not understand the Kiwi fair play scenario. NO ONE has ever increased the prices for a product and gained customers.he thinks 69 cent for the basic package is ok, but people are groaning about the total amount, $49 for the basic, extra for hdi, extra for my sky, extra for extra decoders, extra for sports, extra for movies extra for PPV, extra for loads of repeats and every hour is usually taken up with 25 - 35 minutes of self promotions - applicable to any of the documentary channels.

Some guy worked it out to be over $200 per month if you wanted the full package - ie, everything.

Dean Lonergan and DUCO Promotions.

The fact that you can work out 20000 people illegally watching your $50 Pay Per View boxing event apparenty cost you $1M is lost revenue would suggest that you should also understand that 50000 x $20 also equals $1M.

Think about this for next time before you criticise your target audience for ripping you off!

Dont agree at all why should they do it cheaper just because some tight wads dont want to pay.Frankly says a lot about our society today that people are trying to justify stealing something. they cant be arsed paying for or they deem to expensive.God forbid Duco should try and make money how dare they, guess they should be promoting these events for the love of it.

So its okay know if you think somethings to expensive you just say fark it and go ahead and rip it off.

So you're saying its ok for people to break the law? They're annoyed at people illegally sharing the product they have rights for, whats wrong with that?

Never said it was OK to break the law.

What I did say is that if prices were cheaper, more people may be more likely to think twice about paying for it.

Don't condone the piracy but $50 does seem very high for something that could potentially have only lasted 30 seconds and with no major title on the line, especially when you've also had to pay out for Sky to be able to access it. And I'm sure some people remembered paying out for Tua vs Cameron which must have been the last NZ based fight with a lot of hype. I'm sure a lot more people would have paid $30, and if it had also been possible to purchase it online without requiring a Sky subscription (perhaps through Fanpass) a lot of people would have done that too. Definitely some things for Sky and the promoters to think about for next time.

It's the same old dumb arguments when it comes to piracy.

Someone live streaming it doesn't equal a lost sale.  For example I only watched the fight as I was near a pub and just remembered it was on.  I couldn't legally pay for it as I require sky as well.

If they charged what I consider a reasonable rate and didn't have other prerequisites like having to have sky then I would happily pay for the fights regularly, they have lost income due to their insane pricing.

But in NZ its the same old crap.  Companies holding on to old business models and the priority is changing laws so the company doesn't have to improve their products rather than improving their products so they can reach the widest range of paying customers.

Also its an easy scapegoat, I only made x million instead of X million, it cant be due to my old business model or the content I make is shark, it must be piracy.

Also I hate the corporate apologists.  The broke person who wants to be a part of something is the bad guy, the company making billions who want to prosecute poor people are the good guys.  The backward ass society we live in where people are so out of touch with people financially tighter than themselves that they cant grasp what it might be like to not be able to afford what they want.  It's very hard to progress in a workplace if you can't chat to your higher ups and things like pop culture and sports are the most common conversation pieces.  But so many who are on good incomes just look down on people who cant afford what they get with a shark happens attitude not realizing how hard it can be to move up when you don't get the little things the well off get.

Also I hate the "piracy is stealing" attitude.  It's not stealing.  If I steal something you no longer have it.  If I was never going to pay for something and I watch it without paying you lost nothing.  so sorry but why is me doing something that has no effect on you stealing?  It's just corporate marketing to turn people against others.

Not to mention the number of anti-piracy people who pirate because they don't actually understand what piracy is is astounding.  The number of people who think streaming videos from sites isn't piracy because they didn't "download" it because they have a fundamental misunderstanding of what downloading means is mind boggling.  Every single person I have met in person who is anti Kim Dotcom or super anti piracy is more than happy to watch pirated content or use other peoples accounts for legal services.  They all hold "piracy is bad because billion dollar companies don't make as much money" while not paying for content because they use a mates Skygo and\or netflix account and gets a hard drive full of content handed to them.  Its absurd.

But what really drives me nuts is the attitude displayed above.  C Diddy makes a comment around pricing and how a more reasonable price allows for more people to be able to afford it and probably be more willing to pay, and the first knee jerk response is calling people unable to shill out $100 or more are tightwads.

Of course Sky and Duko are looking at new options to get their content to people, guess f**king what, the new options have existed for a very long time.  how about using some of those profits to innovate rather than very slowly catching up.

I don't know, the whole conversation makes me angry.  The number of hypocrites or well off people who don't understand they are well off in these conversations piss me off.  Getting Sky (installation cost + 1 months sky, or a 12 months contract) plus $50 isn't a reasonable cost for a large portion of the population.  Streaming without that giant paywall would give less reason for piracy, and reasonable prices would give even less reason.

Hell Duco said they don't care if you don't pay, they just don't want you watching online.  They don't care if you go to a mates place and watch it for free.  They only care if you watch it online.  thats just silly.

Oh also that pirate was an idiot.  Modern day robin hood, piss off mate, your just a guy streaming a fight using facebook, you're not feeding the poor under oppression.  I kind of want to see him get prosecuted because he is being a muppet.

All sport is retarded.

I like boxing, but I wouldn't pay $50 to watch any fight on TV, let alone Joseph Parker. Maybe any sporting event even. I pay $200 for mlb.tv. A baseball game is usually around 3 hours long, and teams play 162 games a year. Mlb.tv plays every single game, and you can watch archive games. You can literally watch all day every day in High Def for a year for four times as much as one pretty average 48 minute fight and a crappy undercard. It's mind blowing that the Duco idiots think $50 is good value.

Not sure the sandal wearing brigade live in South Auckland.  Think you need to look at Titirangi or way out West for them.
