True, but where then does that leave:

Carwash
Kung Fu Fighting and
Rasputin?

I feel a disco top ten coming on...

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

From the Arab Superstar TV show...

This guy is pretty good... Trying an old classic originally sung by a genuine superstar Oum Kalthoum
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Oh boy, an arabic Top10 - now you're talking. Singers only: no song titles because I can't read them, suffice to say they're pronounced as though you're coughing up a hairball, with the word 'habibi' chucked in there occasionally.

Kazim el Saher
Najwa Karam
Nabil Shuail
Walid Tawfiq
Fares Karam
Diana Haddad
George Wassouf
Rachid Taha
Nancy Ajram
Mohammed Mounir

All culled from CDs of dubious legality bought from a shifty Egyptian bloke down the market....

"habibi" cracks me up. In Egypt it means darling. Further East it means friend. IMPORTANT distinction as I found out. Not helpful calling an Egyptian policeman "darling"

For a great Rachid Taha clip try this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oSCF8Bl-ys He joined up with Khaled and Faudel in soemthing called 1,2,3, Soleils.  ( 1, 2,3, Suns)

A similarly important lesson, which I learnt to my cost in Indonesia, is NOT to mix up the Indonesian word for grandmother (nenek) and the slang word for vagina (pepek) when you ask a girl the question, "How is your grandmother today?".

The 1,2,3 Soleils album is quality, I agree, and why didn't I think to look on youtube for arabic pop? I was trying to stay away from the computer but it keeps pulling me back in....

Argh. Totally forgot Ich Will by Rammstein....

If you want nice relaxing German music though, try Dimmu Borgier (heh heh)

1)We're on the march wi' Ally's Army -Andy Cameron(the finest example of blind unswerving faith ever seen in the history of  catchy moronic sporting anthems  "and we'll really shake them up when we win the world cup ",   78  was indeed Titanic year for Scottish football
2)
You're not singing anymore -crowds everywhere
3)The referee has a tendency towards erectile stimulation-crowds everywhere (this record was banned but is still a punk classic)
4)Ricky Herberts black and white army --Ginger eejit 12 inch three and a half hour extended   Vanuatu version ,brought the packed Westpac stadium to a stunned and absolute silence  including the  vast swathes of opposition fans behind the goals  and the confused stewards still wondering where the crowd went at half time! a live recording made  during world cup qualifier  2007 ,cell phone quality only  and very limited addition ,fifty cents per copy
5) Ole,Ole ,,Ola,Ola gonna bring that world cup back from over there !! --Rod Stewart and the Scotland world cup squad 1978 (not seen as a high light in Mr Stewart's illustrious  career  and seldom shown on any discography relating to the husky voiced crooner, funny that!)
6)Who are we ,who are we ?-- Yellow Fevers Philosophers section ,a small grouping that may not even be there but then again?( CD released in such infinitesimal quantity's  that they are impossible to see or hear!
7)Theres only two Andy Gorams--The Motherwell fans
and oldie but a Goldie (released after Scotland goalkeeper pulled out of  the Scotland squad citing mental problems only to be taunted by the Motherwell  fans a week later when playing in goals for Glasgow Rangers against the well!! very rare recording deleted now
8)Ring of Fire --J.Cash (love hearing it every home game )
9)Phoenix City --great hearing non zmfm commercial crap before a game, cant beat a bit of Ska
10) Drum beats (various )-- The loved and hated Brazilian drummers at Westpac !
There they are at every home game religiously banging away (been known to do a bit of that my self on occasion!) ,im  pro drums but thats another debate !!(ok  they haven't released a cd ,,,YET! )

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.
