There's so much ancient history in Jordan so hope you get there. Seems a pretty stable country too all things considered

good luck!

Immediately after unrest is a good time to travel as security is high but there's no tourists. The gotcha is that if the unrest isn't over then it really sucks to get stuck in a war or terrorism, and the nz government isn't going to do much of anything to help you, at least that's what they told us.

Dwight Yorke and Peter Andre have both spent a lot of time in Jordan

On a different note, things to do in Queenstown with a toddler at the start of August?

So far I've locked down the gondola/luge (if it re-opens on time that is!) and the Ice Skating arena.

Looking at snow farm in Wanaka but reviews are pretty bad and people are saying just rent a sledge and go down a bank off the side of the road (more fun that way).
Also, anyone rented a car from Go Rentals? They are cheap, but apparently they pick you up and drop you off to the airport as they're based a few minutes away from the terminal.

Cheers

Hit the Casino and leave the child in the car

A lot of cheapo rentals, at least in Wellington and Auckland, have premises away from the airport - cheaper rent I guess. I've used Auckland ones before, they pick you up/drop you off in a shuttle, no biggie if you're not in a hurry. Not sure how that would work with a young child though, and not sure how it works in Queenstown.

I've used cheap ones as well and they'll leave a car in the car park with the keys on the wheel.

Thanks guys - I think the casino idea is my fave so far...

Seriously though, looked into the cruise on the lake, but I'm not sure he'll be into it. We'll go to the underwater aquarium where you can feed the fish and then to the ice-skating rink...then we'll see!
