They had some kind of unicycle athletics at Newtown Park today. Quite a cool skill.

We went looking for a guy we know Rowen who is quite into his unicycles, but did not see him yesterday.

He has done 160km race on one, I can't get my head around the core strength skills you must need to do something like that.
I'm actually keen to give one ago, just to see how easy it is to pick up from regular cycling. Must say though I still don't find them particularly cool, especially if you throw in some juggling as well.

I take back what i said about the ladies- went down to Newtown Park yesterday to watch some more- watched the 'gliding' event-which is down hill freewheeling, a mix of balance and share speed, it was staged on the hill road between Russell Terrace and Newtown Park #2- but the blustery head wind was
making it hard going for some.
The men looked clumsy, and were slow- the ladies, especially the danes and japanese, were composed, graceful and much faster- getting down the hill in 12 secs, while the men were pushing 15 secs.
Very fun sport to watch plenty of spills and near misses, especially when the Parks and Gardens heavy machinery was driven back to the depot at 4.00pm!

I think it was Ken Looi (Wgtn). An ex-colleague was well into it and did some crazy 24 hour event in a team.
Always wondered if there was a cross-country model and if it had either front or rear suspension.

I remember it was a little disheartening on the Taupo Challenge Relay to have the unicycle guy go past me while I was re-attaching a slipped chain, but well done that guy!
He did the whole thing... I just did half that on two wheels and it nearly wrecked me!
Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!
