My DAS was  for studying in the US for a year - so effectively a gap year!

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

law/commerce at vic.
 
enjoyed it, and good to be in school with your mates and that...but could have done with a year off to work out exactly what it was i wanted to do - sort of like what DKP was saying...a year of life under your belt, be it working or travelling or whatever, is time well spent imho.
 
When you leave high school you've never stood on your own two feet at all and are a complete noob at life.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I suggest you sort out what you want to do. If that means taking a gap year, then do it. Then find a place you want to study... Do your research ask around industry people, current/former students where they think produces the best people, best course...

Much better than doing a something you don't like and taking a dead end boring desk job you don't want then having to go back to retrain later in life to something you want to do.

I've scored a job working in a call centre for Officemax. Start in 2 weeks. That sets me up for a job/money so at least i won't be wasting my time. I also plan to gain some work experience in areas which I am interested in.. One of those is Law.

I regret not taking a gap year to work out what i want to do first etc,and just to take a break after years and years of school. Did well in first semester but bombed out the next. I had jumped into a line of study that i hated. Then halfway through my degree finally chucked it for something that i actually THINK i want to do. Taking that year would have saved me more time and all that wasted money.

I've got a few friends who are at uni doing things their parents are forcing them to do.

First year very easy, second year easy too. Third year more difficult but I never worked overly long hours except during the exam period. It wasn't until honours that I had to really start working hard. Even writing a Masters thesis was a lot less intense than honours.

In summary, if you're worried about the workload at first year maybe you're not cut out for uni. Arsenal2010-03-01 13:22:30

Had my first lecture today. So did the woman next to me. Except... she was 19 and I am **... just a tad older...

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Upon leaving Wellington College, I plan on heading to England on a GAP year, where I will play football and all going to plan Arsenal or Manchester United will pick me up and by the time I'm 21  I will be leading the line with Rooney or Van Persie meaning I will not need to come back to NZ for Uni.

Still working on plan B.
