Nix = Wellington = Vic Uni

That should be enough of a reason. But should you need more...

Heaps of options for halls of residence or nearby flats. Heaps of nearby bars. Good bird watching options if you do psych or marketing.

University of Auckland is the only one that compares to the 'big' uni's in Australia ie ANU, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, University of Queensland, UNSW, Monansh.

Canterbury Uni has a strong Engineering school, Otago for Med, Lincoln if you're into Ag/Hort (not really anything else... oh and cricket).

Waikato, Massey & Victoria also good (good being a top 300-350 university in the world).

All have pretty good business courses, but in terms of prestige:
Auckland
Otago
Canterbury
Victoria
Massey
Waikato
AUT
Lincoln

Welly is an alright uni, and pretty decent for BCA subjects, but a stink place to live if you're after student lifestlye. Ditto for Auckland. If you want a few years of student life go to Otago.
So... basically it depends on what you're after.

Is Vic any good?  I'm moving up mid-February for my third year of uni and what a downer it'd be if it sucks.

Have done a conjoint business/science degree at Massey, and currently doing some more undergrad stuff at Waikato I can only compare those two - Waikato is superior, except in economics/finance where Massey is better.

Also, Palmerston North is a much better (and cheaper) place to live than Hamilton, and is close enough to get to all the Phoenix home games.aitkenmike2011-01-05 16:20:10

Avoid Massey Wellington unless you plan to study by distance.

Massey Wellington has a good Design & Animation school. One of the best in New Zealand.

Totally depends what you're studying. Good rep for music, design, law, architecture in particular. That's study wise of course.

In terms of lifestyle, I found it not nearly as much as fun as Otago (where I also studied) just because everyones spread out everywhere, where as in Dunedin everyone is all together round the North East Valley etc.

Auckland would be the best for general 'business' subjects. I can only really speak for economics, but Vic, Auckland and Canterbury all have some very talented professors.

I'm doing International Relations and Criminology.  Do you actually meet people there if you're not living in a hall?  I found at canterbury you didn't really as the lectures were so big and also because I'm not overly-confident.

Worst thing is season ends when I arrive so I'm holding out for a home semi-final.  Tonight's performance a step in the right direction.

I had some huge lecture classes at Canterbury.

First year Econ had 2 different times, but the most popular one had to be streamed to the next lecture theater because of numbers. And people didn't attend because they lectures could be watched on the intranet thing blackboard or Moodle or something.

It is quite impersonal I'd say, and in first year you can just go to either lectures or labs/tutorials and get the idea of stuff, 'cos most is stuff you have already learned.

But would be better once you get into more specialised areas and past the big first year classes.
