USA says North Korea NOT terrorists...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Don't you just hate "realpolitik"?
The US removed North Korea from its terror list after saying the North had agreed to provide full access to its controversial nuclear programme.

Here's a bunch of thugs who starve beat and generally abuse a WHOLE nation but aren't terrorists. This is state terrorism writ large.  But wait.. they'll let some inspectors in and , just like that, they're not so bad again...

Its not like calling them terrorist made any difference, surely there is a far fetched argument that goes something like..... N Korea, strange country with stranger leaders who are mortally offended by being called terrorists, don't call the terrorists and they not so offended and hey look they sit down to talk to the world about ending the horrible conditions in the country....
Surely the rationale goes something like that

It probably means it in the sense of them not being terrorists in the same fashion as Al Qaeda that threaten other countries.

But yes, under the literal definition of terrorism they are certainly terrorists.

If ever there was an example of "paranoia is not sexy" that's North Korea.
There was that bizarre string of kidnappings by North Korea of Japanese in Japan, simply to strike fear into all Japanese.  Absolutely nuts.

Dairyflat. I have to wonder about your interest here.

I haven't checked it out, but I'm sure that the terrorist list is not some kind of human rights watch- ie how is this state treating it's people. It is more likely to be a list of those nations who are a threat to the United States interests.

If you are concerned about the abuses of human rights in North Korea, that is commendable, but why stop there?

@Edward I (love your work btw) the guys who run the country are the legacy of the Japanese empire in China and Korea around that period. They justify everything on that basis, as their fame extends from being guerilla resistance to the Manchuko state.

The attitude of Japan to its actions around this period is not always one of concilation.

In fact, there is a shrine you may have heard of honouring its war dead that is a litmus test of its Prime Minister's attitude to historical memory. Also their text books are not always written condemning the Japanese actions of the period either. When a country doesn't trust its soul enough that it has to write into its constitution that it is not allowed to invade another....!

(See Article 9- damn it the cool link thing is too slow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_9_of_the_Constitution_of_Japan) It makes a cool t-shirt for my friend to wear in NZ, but.
