WTF?
Rugby and the Councils last gasp effort to try and win back fans after the pathetic 7s turnout. On the radio what a surprise. What put you off? The high cost of tickets, food and beverages.

I know a lot of rugby watching mates who are ditching going to Lions and Hurricane's games in favour of supporting their local club and turning out to see them instead.
"...sure beats doin' stuff."
It's absolutely nothing to do with the sevens.
Though I agree it's an absolutely fudgeing mental idea.
I'm glad my council only puts money into things like holding a few Phoenix games now and then.
Now they will probably get a free season pass with their rates.
What about each rate payer getting a membership? That will improve our metrics.

So rugby where the grassroots get's subsidized by the massive rugby union is getting council support, where as grassroots football who passed money up to local and national Football bodies gets nothing?
Yay.
"...sure beats doin' stuff."
Well Welnix is asking the council to contribute financially to the Phoenix. The Phoenix do a lot more for advertising Wellington than the Lions do and are higher profile, so is this not a good precendent?
