NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE DOMINION POST WELLINGTON SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2012

The Awards, now in its 43rd year, serve to acknowledge, promote, and celebrate the contribution that sport makes to the wider Wellington community. Past luminaries who have won the supreme award include Ricki Herbert, Michael Campbell, Martin Crowe, Waimarama Taumaunu and Nick Willis.

The awards recognise excellence and dedication to Wellington sport during the time period from Friday April 1st, 2011 to Monday April 9th 2012.  Nominees must reside in the Wellington Region, represent a Wellington-based sports team or be widely regarded as a Wellingtonian.

The public are encouraged to vote online, via email, or by post for nominees in each category.

Do you have an opinion about who the best Wellington sporting franchise was in the past 12 months? Do you passionately believe that a sporting superstar deserves recognition at the pinnacle of Wellington�s sporting honours? Then make a nomination! There are 12 categories recognising sporting excellence athletes, clubs, volunteers, officials and coaches. There are no limits to how many nominations and individual can make, but be in quick the closing date for nominations is Monday 7 May 2012.

The Dominion Post Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards are organised by Sport Wellington, and the awards dinner is one of the most prestigious events on the Wellington sporting and social calendar.

The awards dinner will be held on Thursday, June 21 at Wellington Town Hall.

Sportswoman of the year
Team of the year
Coach of the year
Disabled athlete of the year
Emerging sportsperson of the year
Personality of the year
Club team of the year
Volunteer of the year

i just nominated YF for Personality (I think - the form is a bit screwed). If Roller Derby can win it...
